Rude Pundit finds plagiarism in Coulter's book
Go RUDE, Go!

http://rudepundit.blogspot.com
There's so much that's fucked up about Ann Coulter and her latest "book" (if by "book," you mean, "Extended projectile vomiting retched out by a pencil-legged harridan scratching semi-words in her own puke") that it's hard to know where to start. There's the title of the "book," Godless, which quite intentionally must exist to make you think, as you walk into your local Barnes and Noble and glance over at the shrieking, howling display of volumes with Ann Coulter's picture on them, "Goddess." One might think no human being could be that needy, but, then again, Coulter's gotta compete with your Malkins and your Ingrahams and other conservative fuck dream demi-babes.

And the Rude Pundit's not gonna get into the whole "oh, Ann Coulter's wrong about this" argument, 'cause that would mean what she says merits any response other than: Are you really that fucking crazy? No, seriously, are you that...fucking...crazy? What else would you ask someone who writes, as Coulter does in the first chapter, freely available, regarding "fears" of water shortages: "Liberals are worried we’re going to run out of something that literally falls from the sky. Here’s an idea: Just wait. It will rain." Beyond the fact that most of Coulter's arguments seem to stem from understanding liberalism from 20 or 30 years ago, the sentence is breathtakingly, self-evidently stupid.

Then there's Coulter's comments about the 9/11 widows in the book and during her strange, defensive interview on Today. The problem that the Rude Pundit has with so many in our mighty right wing commentariat is that they like to beat up on disempowered people - the poor, immigrants, mothers who've lost children in war. You know, if you walk into a bunny hutch and just start ripping the heads off rabbits because how dare they look so fuckin' cute, you really can't walk out with your head held high, thinking you're some great warrior.

But what really pisses the Rude Pundit off is that not only is Coulter a shitty writer and a bugfuck crazed presence any time she is remotely challenged, but she has a bad habit. And that habit, as mentioned before by the Rude Pundit (followed up by Raw Story), is that she appears to like to copy whole sentences from other sources without putting them in as quotes or even citing where she might have "paraphrased" from. You judge for yourself:

Here's Coulter from Chapter 1 of Godless: The massive Dickey-Lincoln Dam, a $227 million hydroelectric project proposed on upper St. John River in Maine, was halted by the discovery of the Furbish lousewort, a plant previously believed to be extinct.

Here's the Portland Press Herald, from the year 2000, in its list of the "Maine Stories of the Century": The massive Dickey-Lincoln Dam, a $227 million hydroelectric project proposed on upper St. John River, is halted by the discovery of the Furbish lousewort, a plant believed to be extinct.

Strangely similar, no? By the way, that's a story from 1976. Coulter doesn't tell you that little tidbit, making you think it happened last week. The next one's from 1977:

Here's Coulter writing about an attack on the Alaska pipeline: A few years after oil drilling began in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, a saboteur set off an explosion blowing a hole in the pipeline and releasing an estimated 550,000 gallons of oil.

Here's something from the History Channel: The only major oil spill on land occurred when an unknown saboteur blew a hole in the pipe near Fairbanks, and 550,000 gallons of oil spilled onto the ground.

Why, in this age of the "terrorist," would Coulter use "saboteur," a quaint term, to be sure? Could it be a cut and paste job with a couple of words changed, like a good college freshman?

So you judge. Sure, it's just two incidents in a single chapter. But does it speak to other potential strange similarities throughout the book? Is it plagiarism? The Rude Pundit's not saying it is plagiarism, but he's not it saying it's not. How harshly would Coulter judge a liberal writer for doing the same? Or would she have to be silent?

The Rude Pundit could end on a high note here. A note where he demonstrates how he's above it all. Fuck that. Sometimes you gotta jump in the gutter and have the slap fight with the whores. Coulter is fond of saying that feminists are ugly, describing one as "physically repulsive." Has Coulter taken a look in the mirror lately? She looks like the crazed lingerer at a bar at 3 a.m., desperate for some fat fuck to take her home, beat her, and fuck her face.

How many people merely reveled in a typically cathartic Rude Pundit takedown, and missed that he's got a scoop on his hands here?

5. Coulter caught in a plagiarism scandal?
To normal writers that have integrity, this would be a scandal in the "Jayson Blair" mold.

But this is Coulter. She abandoned inegrity along with her virginity when she was 14.

9. Lost her virginity at 14?
Even at that young age do you think there was a male of the species willing to engage in sexual congress OUT of their own species? I'm not quite sure what Coulter is but I DO know she's not of the same species as the rest of us. She's somewhere between a single celled organism and a rutabaga in my estimation. ;)

but I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings either.

21. Send this to Olbermann!
If it were Jayson Blair
or Harvard student Kaavya Viswanathan
or the President of Wesley College
or disgraced Japanese painter Yoshihiko Wada
it would be a news story.

Somebody should pick this up & run with it. I'll bet you anything that it enough people were brave enough to read Coulter's tripe and do some research, we could find LOTS more examples.

14. Can Coulter Be Sued For Theft of Intellectual Property?
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 08:27 AM by VogonGlory
Assuming that Coulter plagiarized from progressive writers or publications without asking and obtaining permission or citing sources, can't she be sued for theft of intellectual property? Such litigation might have much less to do with ideology than with property rights, and that would leave her and her publisher a considerably smaller rock to hide behind.

I myself would have no problem with some progressive serving up Coulter with lawsuits for plagiarism. Coulter's opus is vicious polemicism and she doesn't play fair. Why should progressive writers and publishers give her a free pass? She doesn't deserve it, and neither does her publisher. If a progressive was as vicious and untruthful as such right-wing columnists and plagiarized, I have no doubt that Judicial Watch or some other right-wing legal pests would be filing papers at a courthouse within 36 hours.

And just think of the fun progressive writers could have taking monetary damages from this person and what further damage this would do to Coulter's public--(cough)--(cough)--"character."

19. If been trying to tell people this for years...
Sometimes you gotta jump in the gutter and have the slap fight with the whores.

Since when was politics a game of patty-cake? We seem to be, of late, under some delusion that it is... that if we ignore the beast, she'll just get bored and sullen and just lope away, sniffling to herself and mumbling saddened curses under her breath. Those that think she will clearly don't understand the mindset of the vicious bully, and one should not discount the bully just because it comes in an (arguably) female wrapper.

She's like a particularly nasty drain clog. It impedes the water (sensible discourse) and backs up the sink (progress). You've poured as much Liquid Plum'r into the pipes as you dare (ignoring her passively hoping she'll bore of things) hoping to restore the flow, but the clog resists. Now everyone hates sticking their hands or other implements into the plumbing on fear of encountering something icky, but if you want the clog removed, you have to take the manual approach (direct confrontation), and get your hands dirty.

Well said... well said.

24. What is it with these blonde bimbo's !
Please my fellow Dems ,women that have blonde hair dont take me wrong ,I know there are all types in any color hair .With that said ,this Ann Coulter is not the first time I've seen this ignorance in Repuk women ,who seem blinded to the fact that the good old boys are still in control of the repuk party and are far from having womens best interest at heart ,in fact its the opposite ,they would love nothing more then to see things go back to the old ways ,I guess what they would call the "good old days" when women where under paid ,rarely if ever made it to upper management jobs, this is the same kind of shock I get when I see a African American person say they are a repuk. It just confuses me as to how out of touch with the current history of the party they support ? Women and minorities are still struggling in certain areas for fairness , so I was just wondering is there a cetain part of the country these repuk supporting women come from ,there was another one who was killed on the flight that the passengers caused to crash when they bravely fought back ,knowing they where heading for our capital to crash into a monument or the White House on 9/11,however her name escapes me ,I certainly dont find any joy in her demise and I pray for her soul,my heart goes out to her husband and family !
Take Care NicRic

understanding of economics is how to go on a shopping spree at the mall.

For Coulter and Phyllis Shafely: they are the only women who have any right to work or speak; all other women should be chained to the house, cooking, cleaning, childcaring, and servicing the husband.

26. add Keith Olberman's description...
"...Ms. Coulter's walk on the swaying tightrope of her own emotional stability did not end there. In her book she also wrote, "And by the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear in Playboy..."

Appearing in Playboy and getting divorced -- neither of those being scenarios that Ann Coulter is ever going to have to deal with in *her* life."...

'...the swaying tightrope of her own emotional stability...' What a great mental picture.

I know that this will be old news to many, but if you particularly enjoyed the closing comments in the original post and haven't already seen the two filthy and hilarious blog entries posted elsewhere last year by one Bachem Macuno, perform a quick Google search for these words (minus the quotes): "bachem macuno coulter" -- and read the posts whose titles end with Hard and Again, in that order.

Note: Not recommended for those who are easily offended or who have poor bladder control. Obscene, insulting, demeaning, insensitive, and shameful, but incredibly funny, and highly satisfying. If you feel a little dirty or guilty for laughing, just remember who it's about.

The Coulter Interview: The Back Story, by Scoobie Davis

On July 11, 2002, I interviewed Ann Coulter. I had a blast. Actually, it was more of a media prank than an interview because I posed as someone else during most of the interview.

I’ve been blogging since February and I’ve critiqued many on the right, but I only mentioned Ann Coulter a few times. I viewed her as a rather unremarkable right-wing pundit (and still do). A couple articles I read by her in the past irked me. One was a column that falsely accused Jesse Jackson of rioting in the aftermath of Election 2000. The other was a scurrilous column berating Al Gore’s military service; in the article, she compared Vietnam vet Gore negatively with Air National Guard veteran George W. Bush--whom she called “a fighter pilot” (who was Bush fighting in Texas? New Mexico?). However, these articles were from 2000 and old news, so I never commented on them on my web site.

Recently, I heard about Slander from the Drudge Report and got an early taste of it when I read a critique of one of Coulter’s media analyses in the Daily Howler (the most recent Howler has some informative articles on Slander). I found it amusing that someone whose column appears in WorldNetDaily.com (a repository of wingnut conspiracy theories) would make the argument that the coarseness in political debate is “all liberals’ fault.”

I wanted to get a jump on reading the book so that I could publish critiques for my blog site Scoobie Davis Online (SDO). So I had a friend who has mainstream media ties obtain a review copy from the publisher. I also was curious about Coulter’s media itinerary and had my friend contact Coulter’s publicist. Ironically, they didn’t have the itinerary but they called him back and offered to let him do a phone interview with Coulter for radio. He didn’t want any part of it but I thought it would be cool to ask her about some of the misrepresentations and distortions in the book.

I just discovered the Rude Pundit recently. My kind of journalism. :) Glad to see them getting noticed.

About Coulter. (S)he could be attractive if turned inside out, given a good scrubbing with a stainless steel bristle brush, and had the racism bleached out. I think Coulter is a case of beauty being more than skin deep. That hatred oozes out and taints what could possibly be a rather attractive creature.
