Zarqawi: are youcynical enough to wonder if *Co is pissed it wasn't on MON
As soon as I heard the breaking news in the middle of the night about Zarqawi, I thought "mmm. I'll bet *Co were trying to make this happen immediately *before* the primaries on Tuesday (8 states, including CA (with 1/8 of the US population) had them. Maybe since it's primaries, it doesn't matter much, but I was cynical enough to entertain such a scenario.

2. Wouldn't be cynicism at all to recognize political realities. . .
Any political movement would welcome news on the eve of an election that they believed would reflect well on their cause.

President Lincoln was headed for probable defeat at the polls until Gen. Sherman sent the electrifying news in September 1864 that he had captured Atlanta. Was it cynicism or realism that motivated Mr. Lincoln's belief that only great news on an otherwise bleak war front could salvage his prospects. By no means do I mean to equate BushCo with the fortunes of the Great Emancipator, but merely use this as an example of the political realities receipt of "good news" can cause a campaign.

BushCo, I'm sure, would have welcomed this news at the beginning of the week. However, much as I don't expect it to change his poll numbers substantially or for any appreciable term, I don't suspect it would have changed their fortunes in the booths on Tuesday.
