Regarding the vaccine (HPV). Another argument.
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 09:29 AM by Iniquitous Bunny
My biggest argument for any of the "concerned" (not about vaccine safety, but for those who continually frame this in a sexual context) is: What about the Hepatitis B vaccine?

From the CDC on Hep B:

Transmission:

Occurs when blood from an infected person enters the body of a person who is not infected.

HPV is spread through having sex with an infected person without using a condom (the efficacy of latex condoms in preventing infection with HPV is unknown, but their proper use may reduce transmission), by sharing drugs, needles, or "works" when "shooting" drugs, through needlesticks or sharps exposures on the job, or from an infected mother to her baby during birth.

Vaccine recommendation:

Hepatitis B vaccine available since 1982
Routine vaccination of 0-18 year olds

Just what is the difference here? The difference is that WOMEN are the ones in primary danger from the HPV virus (developing into cervical cancer) whereas, men are at little risk from HPV. Why is MY health and that of my daughter's less important? Why is our chastity (or lack of chastity) stigmatized (which is a nonissue really because a virgin could get this on her wedding night from her husband)? Why is a HEALTH issue being politicized by religion (again :eyes:)?

3. I didn't know this.
It's likely a smaller percentage, but maybe it would get them to stop moralizing health to some degree.

5. perhaps someone from Johns Hopkins could jump in on this
you can 'find' the HP virus in the tumors. My husband had HPV in the primary tumor at the back of the throat which metastasized to a lymph node.

7. Is the new HPV vaccine shown to be effective against those, though?

2. The religious right is twisted with hate and fury at girl children
There is nothing they despise more than a girl child.

That is their real family value. Everything else stems from that fact.

And they loathe where those children come from.
