Poll question: Do you honestly believe that Coulter believes the crap she spews?
I'm going on record to say that she doesn't. Before Ms. Coulter starting writing her hate filled screeds she was probably just a bottle-blonde nobody lawyer on the fast track pace to nowhere. Perhaps she always considered herself a republican, but attractive (well some say she is) bleached-blonde republicans are a dime a dozen; Ms. Coulter was a nobody in a giant ocean of conservatism.

Rush Limbaugh was probably one of the greatest pioneers in the art of 'made-up facts just to piss everyone off' and built his fan based on the people too dumb to do a google search and realize that Rush's facts were wrong. But let's face it - Rush Limbaugh needs to do radio. Anyone who has seen the fat, bloated face of Rush Limbaugh knows he ain't winning any looks contest.

So in 1998, an unknown conservative gal named Ann Coulter wrote a book called "High Crimes & Misdemeanors", one of the countless books written against the Clintons during a time when everyone was trying to bring them down but no one was successful. Ms. Coulter learned that there was a market out there of people who enjoy listening to Radio/TV conservative hosts who spew unchecked facts - just like Rush Limbaugh was doing. Ms.Coulter's book appealed to that market as it spewed out hateful lies and made-up crap about the Clintons and the book was a top seller for the year.

But who is Ms. Coulter kidding? Her fan base believes her because they just want someone who validated the lies that they too were using to create their own 'reality'. And this time it was with a gal who appealed to the close-minded homophobes that enjoy listening to liefests like Rush Limbaugh.

But in closing - does Ann Coulter actually believe what she writes? There have been numerous articles & books published that have dismantled her books and exposed the lies, the manipulated data and the plagiary that she has used time and time again in her books. It's obvious that Coulter isn't putting much thought into these books except for one - what could I write in my books to make my fact-challenged fans go rabidly nuts over. I truly believe her books are not her opinions but hate-fill spew to make money off of a built-in audience.

What appeal do you think this has for gun-nut conservatives who think Joseph McCartney was a great senator. For Ann, these were nothing more than publicity to make her fans adore her even more!

2. I agree with you.
I think it's all an act; a big joke; a "persona" that she created.

That's the ONLY justification that I can image for Bill Mahr defending/befriending her the way he does.

Besides, it's just too... I dunno, over the top.

(and mind you I have nothing with any of those things)

If you're a woman, albeit a somewhat pretty one, and you're hanging with Bill Maher, surely it's not for evening prayer & fasting!

She's a very stupid, vicious little thug and yeah, she believes it all. If she can make the most marginal of arguments, she'll believe that she's the smart one who sees how the world really works.

All this shit about it being humor is just that, shit. She's a hatemongering piece of shit who doesn't have an actual friend in the world.

14. SHE IS ONE OF THEM
Swampy, you and I know the real truth. She is one of the Reptoids from another
dimension, who walk among us and who's plan is to enslave the human race and exploit the earths resources for themselves.

These Reptoids are usually good at assuming human shape and manners so it can be hard to tell. But with her something went radically wrong with the process, and her malevelant reptilian nature is EASY TO SEE.

she is an 'OTHER' OF THE WORST KIND

glad to see your showing everyone

And I say again that the best way to get back an her is ----- silence. If a comedian does stand up and nobody laughs, he/she is a flop. I believe she is craving attention and fame and has found a way to get them along with getting paid for it. She says something totally outrageous and look what happens. Can you imagine a Democrat saying things equally outrageous? Look what happend to the Dixie Chicks for God's sake! And they didn't say anything even close to what little Annie Fannie said.

Unfortunately, she's really going off the deep end and she's going to start needing a body guard. Just having pies thrown at her isn't going to be enough for some people.

18. At this point, does it really matter?
She has crossed a line. She has gone past political incorrectness and gone into complete indecency, no matter what her real beliefs are. And, who's to say that the hate she spews isn't taking root in some fevered minds, and will result in something truly horrible someday? Who's to say the that the hate she spews isn't already having an effect on the discourse in the nation? Who's to say the that the hate she spews isn't already being seen by some on the Right as FACT?

She has got to be made to take responsibility for her hate-mongering and indecency. Media whore or not, there has got to be some accountability. What she did and said about the 9/11 Widows was horrendous and -- as I sadi -- crossed a line. No mercy.

I saw the bit she did on Matt show on the internet beyond that i have never heard her voice or read a thing by her . But yes i feel she believes everything that comes out her own world and she is one sick screwed up individual that just happens to appeal to enough people to be well paid , who these people are I cannot say , what I will say is how ever they may be we don't need them at the voting booth or anywhere else I would care to be .

This is one of the things that worries me , who are these people and how many of them exist outside of their fake religous freak base .

28. But we all tell white lies to improve ourselves within the group
I have lied about my age, my weight and a few other 'little details' in order to impress others within the group. People will talk about books and I'll fake acting like I've read it asking some profound rhetoric question but deep inside I know better that I'm faking it.

We probably have all, from time to time, manipulated reality in order to better ourselves and Ann Coulter is no different. Before her first book in 1998 she was nothing more than an obscure conservative blonde working in DC. But that first book she created the lies that appeal to the anti-Clintonmania crowd and they loved it. From there her career was born - take the truth, warp it to your use and then spew a few outrageous comments and suddenly obscurity is no more.

But does she believe it?

She's says she's Christian who attends a Presbyterian Church in NYC and yet the officials of that church don't know her and don't have her on their membership lists

She says women should give up their right to vote to their husbands because they are too dumb, but Ann coulter is so dumb she can't find the right polling place to vote

She calls us liberals godless but here is a 45 year old woman who was never married and not a practicing nun and yet I hardly suspect she's a 45 year old virgin saving herself for marriage. Hell, stories are common place about how she's a smoker, drinker and drug user.

Ann Coulter, to me, is two people. In her books she is someone who has lead the pure life as give to her from the bible and thus feels she can judge others. But in real life I think we can all guess this isn't true.

21. Doesn't matter
Only she knows what she truly believes. Her adopted positions, whether authentic or not, are odious and dangerous, as another poster noted.

Clearly, though, she believes she is entitled and therefore that her opinions should be unquestioned. Her rage at the 9/11 widows is not at the positions they bring forward but the fact that the widows, in Coulter's view, are permitted greater respect and gravitas than she evidently believes they deserve. She was genuinely angry that they are being taken more seriously that she is.

Or that's how it looked to me in the Today show clip.

23. I for one am grateful to Ann for being a truth teller
She wears a "humorist" costume the same way John Wayne Gacy used to dress up like a clown to entertain children.

She is simply verbalizing the genuine beliefs of the fascist thugs currently in charge of the Republican party. Which they of course have to hide under layers of pretty words in order to make themselves palatable to the majority of the public. Which she in turn has to hide under layers of Pennywise make-up.

As soon as she wrote "we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity" we should have known Bushco was planning to declare war on a large portion of the Middle East.

Under the guise of being a "humorist" she is actually showing us how they all talk amongst themselves when the mics are off. Thanks, Ann.

In that light, I think she needs is to be given even more of the publicity she obviously craves. And the public needs to be educated that her "act" is not an act.

25. But remember, Coulter isn't selling books individually
Perhaps this time it might be different, but Coulter books are notorious for having the lil mark next to it's listing on the NYTimes bestsellers list denoting that there was bulk-purchasing done of the book.

I don't think she has enough fans to make her a NYTimes best-seller but if Mellon-Scaife happens to pick up 100k copies of the book and stash them in a U-Store depot outside of Pittsburgh then most dimwits are clueless to realize that this is what makes her book a bestseller.

I'm amazed at the number of DU'ers that don't understand that these people are serious. It's like two to one in this poll - of DU'ers that don't understand what we're really up against.

Just because you can't get your mind around their insanity doesn't mean they are only pretending.

My sister was in law school with Ms. Coulter (i think they finished around the same time) and she said that Ann was just as wacky then as she is now. She has not changed at all.

Whether or not she believes the bile that she spews, I don't know. But after all of these years of spewing that stuff, she probably has convinced herself that it is true.
