We have been asked to provide additional information about the blasting that will be taking place for the Freedom Tower, as has been reported in two major dailies today. Here is the official statement from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for your information.
"On Monday, June 12, weather permitting, construction crews at the Freedom Tower will undertake a test blasting sequence for the tower footings. The blasting technique, which is widely used for foundation construction, has clear advantages over machine operated hole drilling in that it involves less community noise exposure, less dust, less fuel consumption and takes much less time to complete.
The tests will be observed by representatives of the Port Authority and the FDNY, who must approve of the method prior to the continuation of foundation blasting. Once approved, the entire process is expected to take about two months."
