Dear Main Stream Media, (re Coulter, You OWE us neutrality reparations!)

While I wrote this after reading the transcript of Ann Coulter's appearance on the Lou Dobbs show yesterday http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/08/ldt.01.html it really could be to all of the main stream media:

I would like to challenge your acceptance of the currently popular idea, if only in the mainstream media, that there is an equivalency between the left and right. Between Democrats and GOP.

There has been a long term, organized assault on liberal Democrats and their beliefs coming primarily from 2 sources for decades. First there is the radical religious right, which has been used by the GOP. They themselves in concert with people like Karl Rove have attempted to demonize liberals.

You must recall the time decades ago before �Liberal� was a risky thing to proclaim oneself to be.

Second there are the neocons, those who signed on to the PNAC- Project for a New American Century. It began in the late 1990�s and the orginal document calls for the US to take advantage of its position as the singular super power of the world to extend its dominion all over the globe.

These same groups have attacked and labeled the main stream media as the �liberal media�, thus successfully bullying the media into a more conservative and unquestioning position in regard to the powers that be in the last 6 years.

There is no liberal main stream media. Those of us who are liberal must seek out Air America Radio and Amy Goodman from Democracy Now to hear anything remotely objective, to say nothing of liberal.

It is rare to find anyone in the mainstream media who is even neutral, by any objective measure.

Michael Moore has been demonized to such an extent that I am flabbergasted. In F-911 he brought into the light what has now become common knowledge - that the current administration has played on the fears and patriotism of Americans to control policy.

Since then it has become apparent that lies and secrecy pervade all that comes from the current administration.

In fact Michael Moore�s film received a standing ovation at Cannes where it premiered, by people who are in fact our allies. No matter how xenophobic the administration is at their convenience in order to support their policies, Europe has been and remains an ally of the USA, and I might add at their own risk.

Michael Moore is a brilliant artist and satirist. And in fact there was very little in his most famous film (F 911) that was factually wrong.

So let�s forget this comparing Coulter to Michael Moore, let alone Mark Twain.

Coulter is uniquely revolting, erroneous, inflammatory, hate-mongering.

I challenge you to take another look at the assumptions that the main stream media has been bullied into accepting by the same sources that made �liberal� a dirty word for several decades.

Accepting their precepts in reaction to their bullying ways is exactly what they hope to accomplish. Not questioning the powers that be is exactly what they want.

Now Ann Coulter comes on your show with a faux (or maybe real) chip on her shoulder. So if you disagree at all with her, you are cast in the role of the dissenter.

What are you and the rest of us dissenting from?

From her vituperative, venomous, hateful message?

And this individual wants to call liberals godless?

LIBERALS who mostly share the following beliefs:

We who stand FOR helping those who cannot help themselves, FOR human dignity (ie no torture), FOR the essential dignity of all human beings, FOR due process, FOR acceptance of individuals as they are without judgment (ie no anti gay marriage amendments to the constitution), FOR progressive income taxes, FOR REAL national security including port security, FOR negotiation and use of force as an absolute last resort (see writings and speeches of General Wesley Clark, former NATO commander), FOR the preservation of nature, FOR God�s country being preserved in a pristine state as it was given us.

This serves to point out another myth being propagated by the main stream media that originates from the likes of Coulter, the radical right, the neocons, and the propaganda of the current administration �

That the Democrats don�t stand for anything. Those of us familiar with and involved in the party know how absurd this assertion is.

The main stream media owes us at the least a neutral perspective. At this point, it has become so slanted to the right that we should be given the benefit of an ameliorative course of correcting this misguided rightward turn.

The main stream media might begin by going back over the last decade or more and start correcting the many untruths and myths that have been promulgated and have gone unchallenged.

Next you all might stop bringing on �pundits� and authors such as Ann Coulter without accurately labeling them as being of a radical lunatic fringe group.

Some faith she has that she does nothing but promote hatred."
