Yogurt culture evolving to adapt to milk
Scientists say bacterium eliminating genes it no longer needs

As our yogurt culture evolves, so do the bacteria involved in making it, ridding themselves of extra genes and in the meantime giving scientists a glimpse of the evolutionary process.

Scientists have sequenced the genome of Lactobacillus Bulgaricus, a group of bacteria involved in making yogurt. Originally associated with plants, this bacteria is specializing to make itself more comfortable in its current environment: fermented milk.

Looking at the genome, scientists have found traces of adaptation in a strain called L. Bulgaricus over time.

3. God made that bacteria special
Just because one bacteria changes to adapt does not mean humans evolved when the pongid line split off into hominids and simians.

5. it's, um, NOT evolution!
Yeah! Not evolution.

It's, um, yogurt genome-cide.

Yeah. Genome-cide. The good yogurt stuff is killing the bad yogurt stuff. That's not evolution!

7. Germs have already proved they can evolve.
Just look at how they become immune to antibiotics. Even when you stop using certain antibiotics and the germs tend to lose their resistance. They will regain that resistance faster when they come up against the same antibiotic again.

10. The reaction will probably be willfull ignorance
That is generally how the the Religious Reich responds. Ignore the facts...they are not any good for scaring people, like a nice angry god from the Old Testament.
