Something brewing in the Caribbean

The weather channel says the hurricane hunters may go check it out tomorrow. Depends on whether it keeps forming up or not.

Does anyone have the website that shows the water temps in the Gulf of Mexico?

19. Just like last year
The water temperatures are already insane. I fully expect Florida to get hit four to six times this year, but with possible greater intensity regarding strength.

2. As part of my duties...
...I get to talk to the Tropical Prediction Center forecasters on a regular basis. Here's their 72-hour forecast, and let me emphasize the word FORECAST.

9. In a word, no....
...with the ridge currently forcast to move off to the East, the new forcast track takes this system through the Florida Peninsula and to the Northeast. Upper level winds over the Gulf are favorable for moderate development and a loop current, a circulating body of warm water, has developed which will give this system a convective turbo boost. Working in our favor are cooler, but not much cooler, waters closer to the shore which will weaken the system if it stays on track. However, as I emphasized earlier, this is a forecast and anything may happen between 96 - 120 hours out. If it does develop further, look for it to make landfall by mid to late next week.

10. What was brewing....
...has now blossomed into the first tropical cyclone of the season for the Atlantic basin. Currently, the NHC (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov) is calling it Tropical Depression 1 (TD1), but confidence is high that later today it will become Tropical Storm Alberto. Fortunately, in spite of insanely high sea-surface temperatures, it should not intensify to hurricane status because of the upper level shearing at the 300mb level (about 33,000'). This will be a wet willy for Florida and since we're really parched, will bring some relief.
