This is going to be depressing post
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 04:55 PM by windy252
but lately, it's hard not to get depressed. Everytime I search for a job it becomes increasingly difficult to find one. While I've found one now, last year, I was replaced at another job a couple of hours after being hired. It should not be this hard to find a job. I am also concerned about the direction of our country. What has to happen for checks and balances to actually work? I could use something to keep me going.

4. It took me three months to find a job last year
Mortgage payments, car payments, utilities and groceries going on credit cards... the whole nine yards.

I spent a lot of time in HR and I'm very well connected in this town. It should not have taken me that long at all.

I spent 8 - 10 hours a day looking, interviewing, etc. I had half a dozen agencies looking for me as well as two resume websites. I got the job because I was a good boss to a woman who worked for me several years ago. She was temping here and told them all about me. A glowing reference from a subordinate is hard to beat. I owe her. I owe her big time!

5. Enable your profile -- at least let people know where you live. . .
Then, if someone on the boards knows of work in your area, they can let you know. Kind of hard to help if we don't even know the region where you live, let alone what type of work you do.

6. It's not easy for me either
My troubles began oct 21st 2004 after loosing a 12 year long job because of at will and new upper management wanting to bring in their own crew , forget about fighting unfairness with at will crap .

It took me 10 months and since it was the automotive dealership service dept i worked in dealers aren't doing well and jobs are rare . I did find a position at a small one with a lot of hours on a 5% commission but was able to make ends meet only to be laid off after 4 1/2 months .

I have all sorts of interests that have evolved into passions , building guitars , guitar tube amps , all sorts of woodworking and most other Handyman tasks .

The one thing that seems to bite me in the rear is being 57 , and living in the heart of Hollywood CA . Here there are thousands of people looking for something and most of it is who you know or how little you will work for . I could get a position on the beach in santa monica repairing bicycles for $50 a day for the first 90 days and then make more but the gas and time I can't make it on this . Beside appearing as a pervert at my age working on the beach , who am i kidding .

It's no joke , jobs are difficult to find , at least one that fits my qualifications and min wage needed to keep the little i have left .

10. I've always wanted to be a luthier!
Can't you look into that? Building and repairing guitars would rule!

I can see your point about the beach thing. I used to live on the beach... seriously, I was there for at least an hour every day, rain or shine, in sickness and in health, board or body... I feel kind of strange there now... like an old woman... out of place. Sad, really.

Welcome to DU!

I used to have a vintage 50's Fender tube amp... wish I still did:(

7. There's loads of jobs in northeast Florida, if you don't mind low wages,
very high housing costs, high costs of living period, and the jobs are service industry, i.e., flipping burgers, restocking shelves, mowing lawns, hotel maids, etc...

11. I'm sorry about your job troubles.

It's really hard to get a job in this economy, & it's happening to a lot of people. I wish the MSM would talk about this. The CBS news quote in my sig is just as true now as when they first said it. I think we're at least in a recession or a Depression.
