Edited on Sat Jun-10-06 09:30 AM by patrice
I have "Car, With It's Engine Running, Parked In a Parking Lot Rage".

My temper about inconsiderate behavior is getting shorter.

Sometimes you'll even see an un-occupied car sitting there idling (sp?). I know all of the reasons people give for this (because I'm old and know a LOT of people). IMO -There is a very serious question attached to this behavior - Why are so many Americans so weak they can't go without refrigeration?

What can a person do about "CWERPIPL Rage"?

full combat gear, we'd be able to do without for 6 seconds.

Edited on Sat Jun-10-06 09:29 AM by patrice
There are many people who think they have a right to air conditioning and ice on demand. But then, they usually also have health insurance and athletic club memberships.

Sorry - feeling a little bitter today. My mother-in-law is sick.

As they yammer and gesture away, it is hard not to think they are criticizing your driving while they hold their Hummer H-3 18 inches from your rear bumper. I'm old, and when I get the diagnosis of my last illness I will be seriously tempted to blow one of these assholes away for the good of the next generation.

10. I have that one, too, along with
"Someone does something dumb and dangerous then yells at you" Rage... like the ass who passed me and someone else yesterday on the ENTRANCE RAMP of an interste... because the guy in front of me in a small car wasn't going 85 mph up the ramp. The dude passing us was in a Suburban, TALKING on a PHONE, then started screaming at us.

OMG.

34. No excuse for going 85 on an on-ramp BUT...
...I hate it when people take 10 years to accelerate on the on-ramp. That's what it's for - to build up speed so you're going at the same rate of speed as traffic on the interstate when you ramp up to it.

I also hate tail-gaters and people who whip out in front of you and then proceed to go 5 miles per hour.

38. I know, but the guy in front of me was in an old car
And the way the ramp curves, you CAN'T build up more than 40 mph for merging, even with a car like mine that has alot of getup and go... which I hate, because it's a very busy area of the interstate. I drive it every day, and this si the first time I've ever seen someone pass on an entrance ramp!

Oh! Your last thing! That happened yesterday, too! THis dude passed me, cut RIGHT in front of me, then went so slow I had to take the cruise off and PASS him. Then he did the same thing AGAIN. ARRGGGHH!

I swear I'm gonna put a 6 inch steel pipe filled with concrete on the front of my truck and the next jackass that pulls out in front of me when there is nothing behind me for a mile is gonna get knocked off the road and into a phone pole!

5. I think a huge portion of America has no respect
Especially the Republican section. No respect for the earth, for law, for other countries, for other people. How common is it to see a driver flick their cigarette butt out their car window? The popularity of people like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. It boils down to a complete lack of respect. Kids today aren't taught it either so it is just getting worse daily.

31. Yesterday as I was attempting to pull
out of the school parking lot after picking up my daughter, the driver of the car in front of me spotted someone she knew, rolled down her window, called her friend over, and proceeded to yak away, oblivious to the traffic backing up behind her. I honked as did several other drivers who were also being blocked. It mattered not. This woman and her friend were determined to rudely carry on a conversation, others be damned. They kept at it for several minutes.

It's the sense of entitlement that gets me. Just plain unapologetically rude.

47. Oh, I try not to let it ruin my day, but it happens so
often that it's just aggravating. Case in point. Same parking lot a couple of weeks ago. I arrive a half hour early and park in a space directly behind a handicapped parking zone that needs to be kept clear. I frequently park there and know that those spaces are used by parents who pick up disabled kids.

Well, a couple of minutes before dismissal, a woman pulls up next to me in a big fat SUV and tells me to "back up a little" so she can pull in front of me. I tell her "no" and point out that those are handicapped spaces and she shouldn't block access to them.

She completely ignores me and pulls in anyway, demonstrating complete disregard for everybody. This kind of shit is all too typical and just plain grates.

"Why are so many Americans so weak they can't go without refrigeration?"

I hear people gush about how much they LOVE hot weather then I watch them get in their AC cars, go to the AC mall, sleep in their AC house. We don't have AC. Just fans & a spray bottle with cold water. ;)

27. Used to???
We still do. Biggest challenge is the cat using our heads as a springboard to reach the window.

We finally installed whole house AC a couple of years ago because we had to replace the furnace and it was cheaper to put AC in then than to do it separately later (and since we won't live here forever the increased value of a house with whole house air is considerably more than the cost to put it in). We've used it for a grand total of perhaps 10 days since then - and I don't know that we've ever used it overnight.

A few years ago I was in Chicago during a "heat wave" that was supposedly so bad people were dying. I actually asked a cab driver "it's 95, when does it get hot?" Being from like Bangladesh, he just laughed.

39. I know, I've lived in NC or VA since 1982
And can never understand when people die from the heat in areas like Chicago -- unless they are very old and sick. I have -- thank the gods -- AC now, but didn't for a long time, and lived through 100 degrees and 100 % humidity... even though I hated it.

I was in Victoria, BC, two summers ago, and it was a beautiful day: sunny, very low humidity, about 80 degrees or so... and people were talking about how hot it was! Ha!

50. I was just reading "The Coming Storm"
and the author talked about the Chicago heat wave in 1995. 500-and-something died. They mostly were the old and already sick. Some of the elderly were found cooking in their homes, especially in bad neighborhoods. No AC, windows and doors shut and locked (afraid of being robbed).
There was a heat wave in India at the same time. Thousands died.

The Coming Storm: Extreme Weather and Our Terrifying Future.
Bob Reiss

He talks about the scientific reasearch into Global Warming and blends it with stories of people who survived floods, tornados, etc. Talks alot about Al Gore and his work as a Senator and VP.

He grew up in Shanwnee Mission Hills - used to be the #2 county in U.S. per-capita income, when I was a teenager. Anyone who lives here will recognize what Frank says is real.

"What's the Matter with Kansas" is a few years old = about Kansas City and Kansas (not Missouri). He coined the phrase "Cupcake Land" to describe Johnson County, Ks. It's perfect - JoCo exactly.

37. I'd encourage you to be a bit more gentle...
There are lots of folks whose handicaps are not obvious.

Don't know whether or if this guy had a handicap, but as an example I have an atypical back injury. I don't look or act like someone with a back injury because my injury doesn't prevent me from doing things that most back injuries do. For example, if I weren't out of practice I could perform gymnastics during bad spells. I routinely ride a bike, and carry heavy items so long as I am not limited to carrying them in a particular position. Depending on the height of the pickup bed and the length of the 2x4s I could probably throw 2x4s into the pickup. There are lots of things I can't do - and there are times when I have to be flat on my back for hours at a time - even though I could still do gymnastics but for the need to rest my back from other activities in order to avoid escalating the bad spell.

I don't have a handicap sticker - but I do get a lot of disbelief about the extent of any imaginary injury I might have because I don't act like a typical person with a back injury. I also have encountered people with invisible disabilities who have to put up not only with the additional challenges they face because of their disability, but with random comments - and sometimes more - from people who assume they are using a spouse's privileges to which they are not entitled.

29. Nobody can breathe the rancid air

I know when I'm in Atlanta, I have to run the air or I start to get short of breath.

On the mountain, surrounded by my trees, I breathe fine. Our AC doesn't even work so I do without. But i can walk around outside and not collapse.

I have "Neighbors using the road as their personal driveway" syndrome. I'm getting ready to invite over every single person i know with a dually or a Mac Truck or a Harley and let them all park up and down the road and on their right-of-way and we'll all stand in the street like we're idiots who think we own the entire road.

Okay. I am trying to be a good neighbor. It is difficult. I feel your rage.

and I am happy I made the choice to come here.

Alas, I chose this place because it was Appalachia, the Real Deal, and I thought the developers wouldn't carve it up like they did North Georgia.

But now they have come, and all of the beautiful waterfalls and coves and caves that the locals enjoyed are becoming subdivision amenities and the land is getting massacred.

And people from the crowded cities south of here have found us. But they don't want to really understand mountain ways or fit in with mountain people.
They just want cheap land they can level and cement over.

I grew up on a farm & the smell of maure is not as offensive as car exhaust! I would have to get AC in my car if I did lots of city driving. I can't stand to have the windows down while driving in town, or as is more the case in my town, idling at traffic lights. ;) For the little driving I do, the fan works ok on hot days.

On beautiful sunny days that are say 73 degrees and sunny, why cannot people drive with car windows open. On the surface streets that comprise my commute, there are fewer aerodynamic issues. Yet these are likely the same people who moan the loudest about the price of gas.

And unless it is extremely hot or cold, I sleep with the windows open.

I'll do it if I'm just running into the convenience store to get a pack of cigs or a coffee. I live in an area where it's safe to leave the car running. I figure if I'm going to be starting up the car in a minute, it'd probably use less gas just to let it idle.
