Why is someone like Victoria Gotti celebrated in the United States?
She has been given her own TV show and had books published. Her husband was a criminal and a murderer. She was an enabler in John Gotti's crime family and she is unrepentant in her association with criminal activity that surely resulted in the deaths of numerous people.

1. Because she's got nice tits?
And a couple of car wreck children?

Nah, it's the nice tits.

There is no other logical reason.

2. Why do people like to see train wrecks on TV?
I think it's exactly the same reason. Celebrated? I don't think so. It's more like, "Observed with bemused fascination."

9. I can go along with your thesis. There's also an element of
"compare and contrast." People look at these folks in reality shows, they see what they have, what they wear, how they behave, how they interact with others, and for the most part, come away with a sense that their lives aren't so bad, after all! The old "I may not have X, but I sure as hell don't have Y, thank goodness!" at play.

3. What should we do? Celebrate philosophers?
Then the average american wouldn't be stupid. And the goal of our govt is to keep us stupid. Simple as that.

4. More than likely the Gotti family crime stuff was kept away from her. Mob
crap usually doesn't involve the wimmen. They are kind of like conservatives.

btw--have you ever had Chicken Gotti? It's delicious...served floating in a pool of gravy.

;)

7. I think it is because the American populace (me included for a
short time) has been sold lock stock and barrel the American Dream, which has been recreated to emphasize wealth attainment as a sign of status/success/ reason for adoration (insert whatever), without any regards to HOW that wealth was attained (much of which was immoral, unethical and un Christian). In other words, We as a nation, have been manipulated in serving our master of money and not of God!

I guess the question would be, why do Americans value wealth more than morals that would prohibit that same accumulation of wealth? It's because we have been manipulated into believing that Wealth = GOOD, period!
