Am I actually a Democrat???
Today someone called me a Republican. Maybe they want me to fit into their own little world, or maybe they are just crazy, probably crazy. Anyway, I always thought I was a democrat. I just want some answer, am I really a Democrat? I am only 15, and still have a long way to go, but here are a few ideas I have.

*Amnesty for MOST illegal immigrants(If they have children here, or if they have lived here for more than 6 months)

*LGBT rights should exist, there should be no discrimination

*We should leave Iraq, in fact, we should have never gone there

*Wiretapping/Everything else like that IS illegal and unconstitutional

*We should cut funding for the military and give much more to STOP global warming

*Increase taxes on the rich/Give tax cuts to the poor

*Improve our international relations with other countries/Stop playing world policeman

*Completely remove religion from government(i.e. take "God" from the pledge, take "God" from our money...)

*Love thy 1st Amendment

Those are some, so, am I really a democrat? Thanks for helping out this confused little person.

1. To quote Obi-Wan Kenobi:
"Watch yourself. This place can be a little rough." I always wear my flame-retardant suit while in GD. Yesterday I almost decided I'd had enough and I was leaving for good. I may still do that.

2. Of course you are!
And you should get INVOLVED in campaigns and local Democratic Party groups and make sure that the Party pushes the issues that are most important to you.

The most important thing to understand about the Democratic Party is that is is run by the people who get off their duffs and go out and work for it. Those are the people who can set the agenda and ultimately become the politicians and leaders of tomorrow, You should also be aware that the Party is undergoing remodeling from the the grassroots up by those of us who became active JUST to change the party to meet the ideals that it ought to.

Although I haven't looked closely at the race. Could you tell me why you think we can't. I would expect a pretty fun election season there. I think many Dems are planning to help out in your district.

Of course, you're a Democrat. I assume it was on DU that someone called you a Repub. I've been called worse. Just ignore it.

Not DU. This is a very happy and nice place, from what I have seen for the last month or so. The Doolittle campaign was pretty agressive. I kept seeing signs saying "We Stand With Congresman Doolittle". But I also saw many signs that said "Cheny+Doolittle=High Gas Prices" and "How do you spell corruption? D-O-O-L-I-T-T-L-E" and "Dump Doolittle". But it actually should turn out pretty fun. I guess we will have to wait and see.

5. You sound like someone who is a free thinker.
Whether you're a Democrat or not is up to you. There are Democrats who would agree with most/all of what you believe (me, for one), and Democrats who would disagree with some/all of what you believe.

Ditto for Republicans - though I do think that most of them would strongly disagree.

Democrat is a party label that's really pretty meaningless when it comes to your beliefs. Party can be a vehicle to further your beliefs to some extent but that's all it is.

You can tell your friend that when it comes to politics, he/she doesn't know merde from shinola.

But let's take it down to a personal level: Have you seen what the repukes are doing to college loans? That affects you, directly. It is a ploy to put you and people like you into a great burden of debt for a long, long time.

Do you want that?

If not, voting for repukes ain't the way to change things.

26. You will find that most females,
myself included, have problems with MEN who say they are "anti-choice."

Most liberal males understand that women are equal to men in every way, except under American law. And laws were written by men, probably mostly misogynists, who feel that women should not be granted equality under the law.

Personal choice is a privacy issue, and not something that can or should be debated or argued in any location, other than the bedroom of the woman in question. While men do provide one-half of the "matter" that comprises a fertilized egg, their contribution ends there unless they are in a monogamous relationship with the woman in question. If that is the case, the decisions made about such an outcome is between the man and the woman.

In any other case, the woman is the only one who can carry, grow and give birth to an infant, and thus it is her responsibility if she wants to do so.

While men might have their opinion about anything that results from a sexual encounter, they don't have the right, realistically speaking, to say anything about what the final outcome shall be, unless of course they wore a condom or used other birth control measures to try to prevent an accident from occurring, and feel that they took every conceivable precaution to prevent such from occurring.

Given all this, it's very clear--men should shut the fuck up about the woman's right to choose, and get on with their own lives. Trying to act like they can control more than their own lives is just bullshit and trying to pretend they are controlling a woman in such a case is grounds for a diagnosis of severe narcissistic personality disorder.

39. No
That isn't what you said in the post to which I was responding. You simply said you were "anti-choice." Not a lot of ways to define that, are there?

And I gave a very broad reply. You might have been standing in the way when I made the comment, but it was meant for ALL men who define themselves as "anti-choice." Your personal remark will be ignored THIS time because you are new and should be given a little leeway as such, but another such personal remark will be cause for more than a mild rebuke by the mods.

Once you take the test, you will know, for sure, where your political leanings are. Good luck--and enjoy the test.

PS: It's not a question of right or wrong on the test questions--it's how YOU personaqlly feel about issues or topics. Just be honest to yourself, and the truth will out.

As far as someone calling you a republican goes, ignore the ignorant that resort to such tactics because they are too weak to have their opinion disagreed with. Seriously, don't sweat them.

As far as your list goes, it is a fine list with many valid points and shared sentiments.

27. Those bullet points certainly match Democratic positions, but
Edited on Sat Jun-10-06 10:28 PM by Wrinkle_In_Time
you claim to be 15 years old, for crying out loud! I really mean no offense, but why on Earth would a 15-year-old be worried about a political party label? Shit, there are so many more important things in this short life to be thinking about and experiencing, regardless of your age.

You do write very well for a 15-year-old. One could be forgiven for thinking you are older.

If a 15-year-old really wanted to explore the political realm, then I would encourage them to stop glomming on ridiculous, unthinking, binary labels like "Democrat" or "Republican" and keep learning all they can about the manifold political, social, economic, religious, secular, genetic, memetic, etc. forces in this world: especially how they have manifested themselves in the past; what has resulted; who has benefited; who has been screwed; and how long the benefits and screwing have lasted. Mankind has been around more than 15 years. There's a chance that whatever ideas and questions a 15-year-old has were answered in the past. Then again, maybe such a person has thought of something radically new, but I would counsel consulting the past before claiming that.

Form your own opinions based on what you learn and what you observe. Call yourself a "Flagnartyist Romnomulizer" just to fuck with the labels and the label-makers. Oh, and read up on "social engineering".

Or just be a 15-year-old.

Just my $0.02 from the back end of 15 years on this planet and having seen a lot of posts on discussion forums.

EDIT: Spell-check for "Flagnartyist Romnomulizer"

30. Interesting
Democrats are for amnesty, the gays over everybody else, abandoning Iraq, not catching terrorists at home, not fighting terrorism overseas, wealth redistribution, appeasement policies, outlawing god. Is that about it? Because reading your list the way a right winger would, that's what it says.

Which leads me to say, no Democrats do not support amnesty, Iraq redeployment must be done carefully, legal wiretapping is essential in catching terrorists, we should fund both the military and environmental causes, taxation should be fair, global dynamics sometimes including military intervention like in Kosovo, there is room for God in some traditional aspects of govt, and we treasure all Ten Amendments.

So I don't know the purpose of your post because it just strikes me as peculiar. If you believe everything you said in your post, you're a far left Democrat and nobody would ever call you a Republican unless your previous posts struck somebody the same way this one struck me.

32. You are a Democrat
All of your positions are liberal and backed by sound logic. While many democrats are for raising taxes on the rich, I am for lowering taxes for everyone, regardless of wealth, by eliminating the federal debt (interest on the debt is the US's second largest budgetary priority). When you think about it, 500-600 billion dollars a year could go a long way to lowering taxes, funding better education, healthcare, etc. Most people do not realize, that the US has the largest economy in the world, and the quality of life in much of this country is not that much greater over other first world countries. We should be living in great conditions. That 9 trillion dollar debt is a big part of it. I am all for amnesty for illegal aliens but only if they get the border security straightened out - not before. They were stupid to send the guard down there. I.E. Why can't they hire more border patrol agents? I thought I would address some of your positions.

Is it the rabid corporatists and their money machine? Is it the citizens who love the Party platform? Or does it also belong to those who follow the donkey as the only available defense against the elephant?

Perhaps the best question is: if you were running the Party, how would it be different?
