Fujairah Shariah court orders man to be stoned to death for adultery - UAE

FUJAIRAH — The Fujairah Shariah Court yesterday ordered Shahin Abdull Rahman to be stoned to death and Asmaa Bikham Bijam to serve one year in jail along with 100 lashes, following their conviction of adultery. She was not sentenced to death since she is still single.

The case dated back to last April when a national knew of his maid’s illicit sexual affair with one of her compatriots, who used to sneak to her room every day and practised adultery with her till the early hours of the morning.

Considering all the stories of actual stoning to death because of adultery I've ever heard involved women as the victim of the stoning, this is an "improvement". It's "equality" on the march.

I thought to get the death penalty under Shariah one had to have at least two male eye witnesses? Corporal punishment in 2006? Stoning and 100 lashes?

The rich have money, the poor have the religious monkey on their back. I've never seen a religious icon who wasn't rich and led the easy life and enjoyed commercialism to its fullest.

Mother Theresa is the lone exception. She chose to center her life on service to the poor. She lived amongst them.

How can you get so much wrong in such a short paragraph? I'll pretty much agree with you on the old religion as a tool to control the masses saw, but of course it's more complex than that. However, please name one, just one, nation that is a Christian theocracy. And no, the USA is not a theocracy. Much as people around here grouse about it, we're not even close. Theocracies have never gone out of style, so to state that they're back in vogue is nonsensical. And as far as Mother Theresa being the only religious icon you can think of who doesn't didn't loll in the lap of luxury, let me introduce you to Thomas Merton, or how about Martin Luther King? The Berrigan brothers, Rev. Coffin and many others. Lots of people are motivated by religious belief to actively work toward helping others. Yes, there's lots of charlatans, but tarring them all with the same brush is just wrong.
