W: "The Enemy is putting Death & Destruction on our T.V's".
Edited on Sun Jun-11-06 07:40 AM by Philosoraptor
Paraphrasing from yesterday's speech. He said that "the enemy" has the capacity to put death and destruction on our t.v.'s. In other words, (which he pronounces as "Nuh-werdz"),
all they gotta do is blow up a few suicide car bombs and it looks like they're winning, or some such shit.

I get it now, thanks W.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/06/20060609-2.html

The problem we have in this war is that all they've got to do is kill some innocent people by a car bomb, and it looks like they're winning, see. It takes a major event like an election or the death of Zarqawi to understand that we're making progress. And so one of the things I'm trying to be is realistic with the American people, and say there's still going to be tough days ahead, because the enemy has got the capacity to get on our TV with death and destruction. That's what they've got the capacity to do.

13. That quote still blows my mind. That along with
dozens of outrageous statements that no one will confront him on. I have been convinced that Bush is a genius. He has had a plan and vision all along and he knows how to play the fool while telling us all exactly what his intentions are. "Be easier if this were a dictatorship, s'long as I'm the dictator"

3. We need to see that death and destruction instead of American Idol.
Seriously, we need to see it.

But Bush is full of shit, he acts as if it's all just a matter of images on t.v.

7. There is no reality of war to bu$h
He thinks of it as images on TV, never having to face the reality of his actions.

doesn't have to win the conflict but merely not lose. The aftermath of every bombing shown on television confirms that his enemy isn't beaten. It's a lesson usually learned the hard way by every emperor, and Bush never liked being schooled.

22. Just as amazing a quote in writing as when first I heard it.
Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 07:40 AM by maine_raptor
What is interesting is what he is not saying here.

The meme is "we're not seeing the good things on TV", but it is done via the back door. When he says "the enemy has got the capacity to get on our TV with death and destruction", he leaves open the question of why isn't the "good stuff" being shown in the listener's mind.

Of course the fact that there isn't as much "good stuff" as "bad stuff" happening each day or that in order to cover the "good stuff", a reporter needs to risk life and limb is left out.
