I donated and I keep the Google Ads ON!
They bother me one single bit.

The one I like the best is that coffee one. People must click on that one a lot, cause it's there almost every time I visit.

Cheers!

1. I use Mozilla with the adblock extension.
The ads don't bother me one single bit, either - because I don't see them! Woo-hoo!

4. If you are a donor, as you are, that is fine.
What upsets me is when non-donors do that, because they want a free ride, and DU costs Skinner, Elad, and EarlG actual money to keep in operation.

7. i do that and it doesn't bother me one bit...
if they had only progressive ads (genuine targeted marketing) that would be a whole nother story.

they make enough off of donations and ads to not miss any donation from me.

:hi:

13. I have an annoying (to advertisers) habit of just tuning ads out
because every web page out there advertises, even the ones that advertise themselves and their premiums for donating.

The Google ads are unobtrusive. I haven't bothered turning them off. I just tune them out for the most part.

I really don't care what they advertise. I still have the ability to choose not to buy any of it, ideas or merchandise.

23. Same here
I don't want to disable adblock when I come here. I did that once & forgot to enable it when I left. BIG mistake.

And I've actually seen ads for things I wanted to look at.

15. Thanks for the hug!
He is doing great!!! I firmly believe that surgeons must take a class in gloom and doom because everything he said 'could happen' hasn't. *fingers crossed*.

He came off the bypass machine right away, he came off the ventilator Friday night and they took out the balloon pump yesterday morning. He was in a terrible amount of pain yesterday, but they got him up in the chair, and this morning took out the drainage tubes.

I have been churning up the highway between our house and the hospital because of the kids, and the fact that they don't want you sitting in the CVICU room for more than 15 minutes at a time.

The outpouring of good wishes, help, prayers, healing thoughts has been incredible, both IRL and online. It is very humbling to think that many people care about you. It gives me hope for the future.

17. Great to hear!
Sorry to the OP for the threadjack, this is the first I've "seen" you since I read of his condition. And... I have wondered.

I am wishing him a speedy recovery. Peace to you and your family in these rough times.

I probably shouldn't have turned them off in the first place. Bad idea.

9. I am greatly bothered by the blinking ads. Don't people realize that
some people have eye problems. That some migraine sufferers have problems with blinking ads?

I've left many sites when things blink and run-around. It's not worth it.

Otherwise, I don't mind the ads.

I request DU to get rid of blinking stuff.

seeing what type of ads certain OPs trigger.

16. I just turned them back on.
When they start to annoy me I turn them off for a while. Now they are back on. I also like some of them. It was a DU ad that interested me in a great book that I bought.

18. I click on them when I see one worth clicking too.
I am a donor, and will leave the ads on. I like Google Ads. They do a pretty good job with targeting, so I regularly see something worth clicking on. I haven't actually bought anything yet, but I have found some interesting sites.

19. How does it work?
I am seriously considering buying a Burke High D Irish whistle. If I mention this whistle in a thread somewhere on DU, say in the Musicians' Group, will Google pick up the words and show links to online stores that sell the whistle, like for instance, The Whistle Shop (which is where I'm planning to order it)?

If so, and I buy the whistle through a DU Google link, it would benefit DU, right?

They don't bother me either, and I want to keep the capability of seeing them so if there's one that interests me I can click on it and help make DU some income.

the bottom line. I personally couldn't imagine all the hardware it must take to run a place like this and it sure seems these guys put there money where there mouth is. went from 75 plus thous. when I joined to 90 plus thous. now, all this with an improvement in speed and features. I wish I could say the same for our govmit.

Although I occasionally see an annoying right-wing one, they're usually on-target and sometimes rather amusing.
