"Things would be better if someone would get Zarqawi"
http://www.khilafah.com/home/category.php?DocumentID=13442&TagID=1

On the eve of the invasion of Iraq, Colin Powell addressed the United Nations, February 2003, and referred to the enigma know as Al-Zarqawi. In that now infamous speech, the then US-secretary of state stated that: Zarqawi had one-leg, he was an ally of Saddam, and he had a chemical weapons network in Europe. As with most of the content of that particular party political propaganda broadcast, none of these three statements were true. However this speech contributed in a major manner to securing Zarqawi's position in the headlines for the next three and a half years. This speech put forward a possible candidate for chief bogey-man in the post Saddam period. In this respect the near mythical media persona of Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi served Bush-Blair well. Now Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi has been removed from the scene. The US and UK are left without an individual object of odium.

The crusader forces needed a Zarqawi figure. The cause of all the carnage and killing in Iraq could always be laid at the doorstep of an evil monster figure. Surely, only a monster could kill so many of his own kind. Surely only a monster could carry out and record beheadings. Surely only a monster could deliberately target a wedding reception etc. His status was inflated by the west for several reasons. In the crazy mixed up mindset of the Americans a demon figure fits nicely into the good versus evil model of the world that Fox news has created for them. Zarqawi the icon was a contrived conduit linking September 11th, Iraq, the Taliban and the war on Islam. The powerful image of the collapsing twin-towers could be conjured up at the mere mention of his name. snip

With regards to the killing in Iraq, we should put this all into perceptive. The death toll in Iraq is horrendous. Those that are responsible for the killings are the Crusaders not the Zarqawis. According to the crusader's own statistics they claim that the so called "foreign fighters", i.e. Muslims that are not born and brought up in Iraq but are present there, constitute no more than 10% of the resistance to the invasion forces. Even they claim that 5% of the deaths in Iraq are at the hands of so-called "foreign" Arab fighters. Eight major independent studies have all placed the majority of deaths in Iraq at the hands of the US and allied forces. It should be clear that the misery that Iraq is experiencing is solely the result of the crusader invasion. To use the words of Tony Blair, we should not have any illusions about this.
