7 p.m. ACLU presidential power forum - stream it live....
We invite you to join our live Internet audience this weekend.

On Sunday, June 11 at 7 PM EDT (4PM PDT), simply point your web browser to:

www.aclu.org/presidentialpower

Internet viewers will be able to watch our National Town Hall meeting on Spying, Secrecy and Presidential Power in real time. There will be opportunities for live questions from both our Internet audience and those on the ground in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Panelists will include:

John W. Dean, former White House Counsel
Ann Beeson, ACLU Associate Legal Director
James Bamford, NSA expert
Nazih Hassan, plantiff in ACLU v. NSA
Our National Town Hall comes on the eve of our Monday hearing in the ACLU v NSA lawsuit, with arguments spearheaded by one of our panelists, ACLU Associate Legal Director Ann Beeson. We will be arguing for the immediate end to illegal spying by the NSA.

Through the power of the Internet, we will continue to spread the word about these unprecedented abuses of power and help hold the government and complicit telephone companies accountable for this illegal spying program.

We hope you will join us Sunday and will invite your friends, even if you think they might disagree.

ACLU protects the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. How unAmerican:sarcasm:

conference call with Al Gore.

so you'll be able to watch it anytime.....:hi: Did you end up seeing the movie Friday? My friends schedules were inflexible, so we saw it Saturday.

6. Yes...
Al Gore was so in his element. It's amazing that they took what was essentially a slide show interspersed with bits from Al Gore's life, and made a movie of it. The portrait of him was so genuine and honest and he was so passionate about things.....It just makes you even sadder about the tragic date of Nov. 7, 2000.

7. I'm trying to believe now that it all happened for a reason
Edited on Sun Jun-11-06 05:11 PM by SharonRB
and that in 2008 he'll be the right man at the right time in the right place. And he'll be the one to help save the planet. Super Gore for president!!!!

I have to get my folks to go see it. My aunt and uncle were visiting from New York and they and my parents were here for brunch today. When I brought up the movie, my father poo pooed it and said that scientists disagree and compared Gore to Michael Moore. I told him that was because he watches Fox. He and my mom voted for Bush in 2004 (because for some unknown reason they thought he was better for Israel), but Gore in 2000 and my aunt and uncle voted for Kerry. Now I just have to get my parents to see the movie. The planet is at stake. My dad doesn't think there's anything we can do about it. We need to get people one by one to realize that it's going to take everyone doing their little part to bring about change -- I know it sounds like a daunting task, but if everyone has the attitude that it's too far gone already, nothing will change. I truly believe that Al Gore as president can help to bring about change.

Once they see the movie, it will be hard to dismiss global warming as hype. I firmly believe in it, but yet I still walked away from the film a little bit shocked.

9. I certainly felt more educated about the specifics
and, yes, a bit shocked at the speed and extent of some of the change. The data should convince anyone, but who knows.

Did you have a packed house? Did everyone clap at the end when they were making suggestions during the closing credits?

Friday at 7:30 there were only a few empty rows in the very front -- the rest was packed. We saw it in the large theatre at the far left -- I think it's the biggest auditorium at the Main.

and it was about 3/4 full at 4 p.m. on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Another friend of mine tried to see it Saturday night but all the shows from 7 p.m. on were sold out. :bounce:

12. That's wonderful -- of course I think a lot of people seeing it now
are like preaching to the choir. But it's still good to hear. And, yes, a 3/4 full theatre at 4:00 on a gorgeous day like yesterday is amazing.

On Friday night, there was a whole group who had bought tickets through the Sierra Club. The woman in front of us had never even heard about it except that she belongs to a hiking club and they found out about it from the Sierra Club. I was pretty amazed that she knew nothing about it until the past week or two. Guess because we hear about everything on DU, I'm a bit spoiled and figure everyone knows what we know, but alas that's not the case.

14. Just video?
Seems to me there was just video for the last one they did, at least on the night of the event. They added an audio version later when they archived it.
