ABC News/LA Times - Inspectors' Worst Fear: Winnebagos of Death
http://abcnews.go.com/International/story?id=79784&page=1

Nov. 27 As U.N. weapons inspectors begin their work in Iraq today, there are fears Saddam Hussein may still have the means to kill thousands of people hidden among the fleets of motor vehicles across his country.

Civilian experts and government officials say Iraq has put many of its weapons laboratories on wheels, making them not only nearly impossible to detect and destroy, but also posing a grave threat in the event of war. snip

In a recent address to the National Press Club, Gen. Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned "there is evidence to support mobile production capability for chemical and biological weapons {in Iraq}."

"It does not take a lot of space for some of this work to go on. It can be done in a very, very small location. And the fact that you can put it on wheels makes it a lot easier to hide from people that might be looking for it."

Even more worrisome, experts say, is the fact that these mobile weapons labs, which a report in the Los Angeles Times dubbed "Winnebagos of Death," could be ready at a moment's notice.

1. Guess I won't be gettin' an RV anytime soon.
Besides the crappy gas mileage, I'd hate to be pegged as a terra-ist.

2. oh, sorry
I thought from the thread title this was about the travel trailers Katrina survivors are living in during this hurricane season.

My mistake, carry on.

3. Good point, there. What a fucking disgrace; it's been almost a year.
"Hundreds of billions for Iraq; not a cent for our own."

There's some "compassionate conservatism" for you.

4. Remember all those gas masks and protective suits our troops were
sent to Iraq with? CNN/MSNBC had demonstrations of how they would have to wear this gear because of threat Saddam would unleash his Chem/Bio Weapons on them.

How quickly the media forgot. How quickly the American people forgot. One wonders how many troops actually had this equipment given the sorry state of their body armor for vehicles and themselves.

This Pentagon is a farce.

5. If I remember correctly, there were some news media
reports that the masks and suits didn't work well and were far too hot to wear for any extended period of time in that climate.

8. Good Question.
Note the mention of "last month's search in Washington for white-paneled trucks driven by the Beltway sniper." That was at least three years ago.

7. o heavens-to-betsy! the tired old bush formula for planting fear and
keeping control.

fear planting + fear planting + more fear planting.

somewhere someone--an entire nation: ours--ought to have been able to figure out already bush's formula for control of we the people. zarqawi's death didn't turn his poll numbers around from the slide they were in...so now...WMDs all over again.

barbara must have controlled him as a child with incredible fear planting.
