1. Another question: how many have been deployed there
Edited on Sun Jun-11-06 06:48 PM by spindrifter
twice? And on edit--if they have been there twice, what was the period between deployments?

5. estimations....
You'll never get an accurate number here -- the 4th ID and the 3rd ID have each served two tours as Divisions -- the Airborne units have been more frequently - and the Marines change as often as well.

Each time a Division has redeployed - soldiers have left one division for another - so even though the Divisions have only been there twice each - some soldiers have been 3 and 4 times. Soldiers who returned after a tour with the 4th ID, and then changed station have often been sent back within a couple of months as their new division deploys to replace their old one which just returned.

That's not even allowing for the National Guard units which deploy in overlaps separate from the Army and the Marines.

You know - with enlistments down - they are now cross-enlisting members from the Air Force and Navy - so that there are airmen and sailors serving on the ground in Iraq as we speak.

7. thanks
i'm sorry we haven't been better at keeping up with things. i get here from time to time to read the posts - but don't do much posting myself.

kevin's looking forward to getting out of military prison -- BIG TIME -- and being able to start posting for himself again.

FYI -- a Division is usually around 20,000 soldiers = and a Company is about 200 or a little less. All the installations except Ft. Hood have one Division represented. Ft. Hood is the largest installation and it has two full divisions stationed there.

11. Yes -- it's us
HI -- our computer crashed and when I signed on with this one I couldn't remember the password for the old names so I had to start again.... :-)

Kevin's good - He's causing a lot of problems out there so they have him in Loss of Privilege confinement. But - it's okay - the guard commander admitted he's there because of the problems he's causing for them.

It's getting close to his release -- weeks now as opposed to months - so we're looking forward to his getting home and getting started on new projects.

we also have an attorney who has agreed to take his case on appeal -- he's a great attorney. Talked to Kevin a few times already. He knows the system. He's a CO himself - 30 years experience handling the military.

Soon as we get the retainer raised he's officially onboard --- YAY>

Thanks for asking.

Monica

2. Too many
and too many have been deployed at least twice. I heard from a local military family that their son is to go back despite having PTSD-the military hasn't even let him see a psychiatrist about it, and has only given him some pills. Bush is destroying our military.

3. Soldiers are only part of the equation

We're making heavy use of contract workers (basically mercenaries) such as from Blackwater USA, and those won't show in any count of the "troops", not to mention people from governmental divisions other than the military.

14. Yes, I heard the same number quoted
That's a lot of troops.

It will probably be 2,000,000 or 3,000,000 by the time we leave Iraq for good. Who knows how many will come back with problems left behind by the war.
