Deadwood, a microcosm of today and *Shakespearean?*
The affinity between today's politics and the fictional "Deadwood" on HBO are in the face to me.

Also, the Shakespearian flavor. Has anyone else picked up on this. I mean, Timothy Oliphant plays like Prospero on steroids.

2. No shit... It's the best television out there today and I have to ask...
Do you see the Shakespeare plagarism in this as I do?

(In the sense that they tried to recreate the flavor in the story?)

4. Yes. The language is heightened and poetic.
I haven't seen it this season, but the person who first told me of the show spoke of how "Shakespearean" it was.

The characters are also writ large, and the themes are deep and universal.

5. Thank you! I thought it was just me...
This season (probably the last) they upped the Shakespeare and the dialogue is absolutely wonderful!

7. I think they intended it to be Shakespearian
Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 08:14 PM by SoCalDem
and did y'all know that a LOT of the characters in it were REAL?? I think that people who went west and wnet into business probably DID "put on airs" and talk in an elevated manner sometimes.. Lots of folks were totally uneducated, and the ones with a modicum of education wanted to play it up to the utmost advantage :)

9. I saw the reference to Shakespeare, but I don't watch the show,
so I don't know in what way it is Shakespearean.

BTW, if you want some laughs, check out my journal for past "William Shakespeare's Thought For The Day".

8. Deadwood is Prospero with the word "fuck."
I'm going to miss it as well.

But, if you Google the history of the town, you will know that it is a sort lived...
