Where are all of the Good Guys?
What has happened to them?

Since George Bush took office by way of questionable tactics in 2000 and the 2004 re-election, where have all the Good Guys gone? We should all know who they are: they're the ones who are not Republicans, know the laws of the land, and have the contacts to make things happen. But they seem to have evaporated.

With the 2000 and 2004 elections, where many have raised legitimate questions regarding the accuracy and security of the votes, very little has really been done to bring this to the attention of the public.

President Bush is very obviously abusing the powers of the Executive Office, yet very little, if anything, is being done to challenge these abuses. Why? Why is President Bush allowed to make over 700 signing statements to bills, which essentially make a mockery of them, without being challenged?

And the list goes on and on. Spying on Americans and lying about it. Not putting people under oath when they testify (Bush, Cheney, Gonzales, for starters...) Outing CIA operatives for political gain, then pretending you know nothing about it. Starting a war on information known to be inaccurate. Allowing Americans to suffer after natural disasters. Irresponsible handling of taxpayer money with no-bid contracts, raised debt ceilings, and record deficits. These actions are unethical, likely illegal, yet very few people are challenging them. Why?

Not everyone in a position of power is Republican. And even among Republicans, a good many of them find these actions offensive and over the top, yet they do nothing to stop them.

Is the mainstream media totally controlled by Republicans? Are there no newspapers, television or radio stations owned by Democrats anymore? During Watergate, it took only one newspaper with guts to bring down Nixon and his gang. Where is our one newspaper with guts now?

Where are the Democratic judges, corporations, and others who would be in a position of power to put their foot down and say, "THIS IS WRONG! THIS IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!" Have all the true patriots evaporated?

This is what concerns me more than anything. The checks and balances put in place to prevent rampant abuse of our Constitution seem to be gone. What happened to them? Are all elected officials, judges, and others in a position of power crooks? Do they all have personal interests that prevent them from outing the abuses we're seeing today?

I'd like to know where these people are today. History is full of them. Some of the greatest challenges mankind has faced have been dealt with head on by brave people who knew the difference between right and wrong.

Where is the Martin Luther King of 2006?

Why do we not have a Deep Throat, as we did back in 1973?

Where are the people in power who could actually do something about what's going on? And why are they silent after 6 years?

1. Conyers is one
He's relentless in his pursuits.

There are some others (not enough).

But I just don't see anything ever coming out of their efforts.
And I don't understand.

2. Actually it's worse
"Is the mainstream media totally controlled by Republicans? Are there no newspapers, television or radio stations owned by Democrats anymore?"

The media is mostly corporate owned, the majority of what we see and hear are owned by maybe 6 huge groups and most of the rest by mid-sized ones. As consolidation rules were lifted the smaller stations were absorbed by medium corps and the medium ones absorbed by larger ones.

You might find this interesting, look up your local newspapers and TV stations and see who really owns them.

There's also an article on the page titled "A Way Out?" by Douglas McCollam, it's worth a read to get an idea of how we got where we are. In part we did it, everyone invested in mutual funds or a market based retirement account, and in part the big investors did. The bottom line became the main one and for that it's pander to the polls and don't piss anyone powerful off.

5. Don't discount republican good guys...
Fitzgerald for example...

There is a lot going on behind the scenes--politics aside--to bring balance. Progress is slow.

and I am afraid to say(or maybe not)...that we are the ones we have been waiting for.

Bloggers for truth and justice are the real American patriots. WE are the ones who have been taking down the corporate media, we are the ones who have been exposing the phony politicians...they have underestimated the internet and the power of the people and we are the ones that are going to bring back democracy to America!
