THE SIGNING STATEMENTS ARE HERE:
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/wcomp/search.html

PIck a year, type "Statement on signing" in the search box.

ENJOY!

They're fairly redundant. For the most part they refer to a section of the law which requires reports to Congress, etc. The BA states that the law "Purports to require" (BULLSHIT) then explains how he's the Unitary exec so he'll consider the law "advice" (MORE BULLSHIT), sometimes including an actual (BULLSHIT) reason to do so, ofttimes not.

3. thanks for this post
I checked the site at approximtely 10 AM ET this morning and there was still nothing being returned on the search or the browse function. I placed a call to to Charlie Savage (the Boston Globe reporter that wrote the recent story) but only reached his voice mail. I left a message about the concern that the documents could not be reached all weekend. He hasn't returned my call yet.

I am glad to see that they are back to being searchable and actually display again.

I will be busily saving them as files this week for sure.

kicked and rec'd too!

It is interesting. When this came up last eve, I used this following link to the GPO site that I found via DU search engine that SollyMack had posted back in March to the site and it's search page, since it too was known to be accessible at one time, and using Solly's keywords "signing statement":

http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/multidb.cgi?WAIStemplate=multidb_results.html&WAISqueryRule=%24WAISqueryString&WAISdbName=2006_presidential_documents+Weekly+Compilation+of+Presidential+Documents+%282006%29&WAISqueryString=signing+statements&Submit.=Submit&WAISmaxHits=50&WrapperTemplate=wcomp_wrapper.html

I can vouch that nothing was returned last eve on the search using that link, either.

Just went to my browser history, tried again when I saw this post and what do you know- it all comes up.

Yes. Archives would be very wise.

4. He's not the 'unitary executive.'
Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 12:04 PM by igil
Abductive reasoning in language strikes again.

"unitary executive **branch**." Just as "an illegal" is a substantivized adjective for "an illegal immigrant", so "unitary executive" is short for "unitary executive branch." Not for "unitary executive officer".

It's the branch that's unitary. I'm not sure what a non-unitary officer would be like. Perhaps we have one. But that's a different matter.

On edit: The link, though, is handy to have.

6. Link to the Boston Globe piece re: ABA Task Force on the matter.
and Specter's promise. My gut feeling that this will go anywhere in any meaningful way under his jurisdiction:

Snowball's chance in hell.
