1st Hurricane of the season ALBERTO expected to hit FL....
FEMA is ready for action and Jebby is the defender and star in this storm, which will likely not even reach Category 2.

Why all this preparedness, when before Katrina his brother W was on vacation during and after Katrina?

Check real-estate prices in Hernando Beach. There is nothing for sale under $150,000, with most homes going for around half a million. Land value must be outrageous in the area, judging from this example of housing in Hernando Beach: http://www.harmonhomes.com/real-estate/homes-for-sale/Florida/Hernando-Beach/results/detail/13268299

1. Is there any home in the state of Florida that sells for less than 150k?
Just askin'. Cause I know that here in South Florida, anything less than that is unheard of.

4. My dad bought his home in 1953 for $8,000 - he's been offered $300K
It's insane. The neighborhood where I grew up and my parents still live has been stripped bare; all the little CBS (concrete block structure) homes built in the 50s and 60s have been torn out and replaced with two-story town home duplexes that sell for $400K each.

My mom and dad live in one of only three homes that remain. All the old neighborhoods are being ravaged by developers hungry for new places to develop.

That's all happening in Tampa.

6. This is Florida, not Louisiana....
We take our hurricanes seriously. And even though it's not that strong as of this posting it's headed straight at my town.

18. It became a "hurricane" because...
1) Slow news day

2) No new blond women have gone missing lately

3) It's an election year, must make the governor's party look good

4) While the strength over all is below hurricane standards, there are areas of the storm that have "hurricane strength gusts".

Answer number four is what the CNN weather man said, btw.

8. Why all the preparedness?
Because it's an election year. Though I like to call it Tropical Storm Torture Boy.

11. I moved out of Tampa in 1994
but the 12/13 years that I lived there, only ONE Hurricane entered the gulf that threatened Florida. Florida has the worst luck going in the world. On the westcoast...I would NEVER have thought that possible.

16. Tampa is the best place to live in Florida to avoid the storms
I have lived here since 1996 and everytime we get just a little wind and rain.

Even right now the section of the storm that was suppose to give us the most problems just more or less fizzled on the radar - It is the wierdest thing - we are still getting some rain, but not what it looked like it was gonna do earlier today.

We needed ALOT more rain than this.

13. The Bushes are trying to make it look like Louisiana's fault
They've learned a lot from Katrina about how to cover their asses. If FEMA had been ready for Katrina, the death toll would have been haved, and the suffering level afterwards would have been a fraction of what it was.

17. Funny...
...FEMA worked just fine coordinating efforts for teams from around the nation when GOP-led Florida, GOP-led Mississippi and GOP-led Alabama were pummeled by hurricanes in the years prior to Katrina.

Odd how that works, huh?

19. take away FEMA funding, put it under a new DHS and appoint a fool....
as director, instead of the qualified expert Clinton appointed to run the organization and "presto" FEMA fails. yeah, go figure.
