Burns skips first debate against Tester in Montana
Senator Conrad Burns says in an ad "he can't wait" to debate his rival Jon Tester. Apparently he can. Instead of attending the first debate between the two, before the Montana Newspaper Association" Burns attended a "posh" golf fund-raiser in his honor in DC. Tester ended up posing a question to Burns' empty chair. An empty chair for an empty head.

1. If this were the early 1800s, would this result in a gun duel?
Not showing up to such an important event could be considered an insult and a dishonor.

3. Beautiful.
What an ass Burns is.

I wonder when his indictments will come down.

4. Let's see... Burns would rather hang out with the elite
than answer his boss's questions - his boss being the people of the state through its representatives on the questioners' table.

Now, will the boss fire Burns for insubordination?

5. Markos is so full of shit
In response to the Republican attack about "east coast Democrats" Markos says, "It's one of the key lessons we tried to deliver in Crashing the Gate -- the national party doesn't know squat about your neck of the woods, so don't let them tell you how to run your race."

Certainly Tester has to run this way, but if we ever want to have a national identity ever again, we have to change the reason why Tester and the rest of the Dems have to run this way. This is nothing new and certainly no lesson just stumbled upon by Markos and Jerome. Local Dems run away from the national party and have been doing it for years. Until we change the "liberal label" of the national brand, local Dems will always have to run away from the national party. This is the problem, not the solution. Gads, what an idiot.

6. This is going to play well in Montana, you betcha
Given that the average Montanan's life revolves around posh DC golf courses. I guess he's giving up and just enjoying the perks while they last.

7. It's dismissing the idea that he needs to campaign
Apparently he did it against Schweitzer too. It won't work this time because the winds have changed. Stupid part is that that's how he got into office in the first place, by running as the outsider against the Democrat who had forgotten his roots.
