FEMA stockpile supplies ahead of Alberto

WASHINGTON - The nation's disaster response agency said Monday that evacuation buses and truckloads of food, water and ice were standing by for the year's first big tropical storm but state officials across the Gulf Coast hadn't asked any immediate help from Washington.

1. I'm glad they feel ready to deal with a Cat 1 hurricane
tornados, flooding and storm surge and all.

2. But of course!
Florida has lots of wealthy white people. Naturally we want to help them.

5. That's a bit like saying L.A. has lots of wealthy white people...
yes, it's true. But it's hardly a dominant factor of the state. Florida is a massively diverse state, much like California, and has a huge disparity of incomes, classes, races and nationalities. If you think we're nothing but wealthy white people, I invite you to drive through Miami's Little Haiti sometime. :hi:

6. Agreed, I didn't mean to imply that Florida isn't diverse...
...just that I think I know where all those relief supplies will be going when the hurricane hits the fan. It won't be to Little Haiti.

3. Hmmm...there must not be any gays or black people in Florida.
If FEMA is ready to go, it's only to save the rich, straight, white Republicans, because they don't care about anyone else. (See Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans 2005, for details.)

4. Oh yeah. There's no gays in Florida.

Oh and blacks? Yeah, we don't have any of them either.... well, aside from the few million Haitians. But never mind them :eyes: :eyes:

7. I disagree with Jeb's politics, but his hurricane center... 10 out of 10..

BTW, that little tiny hurricane with 75mph winds and 8-12 foot storm surge is headed STRAIGHT at my little coastal town.

Jeb's a different character than W, he actually gets results as far as his response to the many storms we face every summer.

13. laughed my way through the press conference
Watched Jeb on the latest press conference at around 3:00. I was both laughing and pissed. He said that FEMA had been on the ground here for the past two days, ready with supplies and help!!! Two days ago this thing was a tropical depression!!! There are so many issues at play here -- is FEMA finally getting their act together and improving (although maybe over zealously, as I've seen way worse rainstorms than this)? Are they kissing ass because of the Republican leadership in this state? Do red states/areas get better treatment from the government? Who knows?

As someone from Louisiana who now lives in Florida, this proactive response from the state and FEMA breaks my heart in multiple ways. I don't know who to be mad at. I just know I'm mad.
