U.S. troops kill 7 insurgents in raid, but 2 children killed
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/world/iraq/20060612-1417-iraq.html

<snip>The raid that killed the two children took place in Hashimiyat, a district of Hibhib, where al-Zarqawi was killed.

Residents in Hashimiyat, near Baqouba about 35 miles northeast of Baghdad, accused American troops of targeting civilians to find insurgents.

A man wearing a white dishdasha held the charred body of a child whose head had been blown in half. Other Iraqis screamed “Allahu akbar,” or “God is Great,” and raised their hands despairingly as they put the charred bodies of children – a 6-month-old and a 4-year-old – into wooden coffins and loaded them onto trucks.

AP Television News video showed burned-out vehicles and a devastated house with a large hole in the roof.

“That was an extremely unfortunate situation,” Caldwell said. “Any time we're out conducting operations against terrorist elements and they mix themselves in with innocent young women and children and civilians, they in fact are asking for that possibility to occur.”

1. As my Japanese friend says
this killing of innocents would be intolerable if they weren't brown skinned with a different religion.

5. I don't approve of killing of children and innocents
You do? Iraq never was a threat to us or asked us to be there. Yet, we are killing the innocents?

7. Nothing, in my mind justifies us killing innocents,
when there was never a threat made to us by these people.

11. I saw nothing in the article indicating they were being shot at
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 02:01 AM by theHandpuppet
The children were killed in a raid by American troops. That would indicate that we were the ones making the offensive moves.

Edited to add: The article states several times that this was a raid and that's when the shooting started, followed by bombing by our aircraft. This would defintiely indicate we started this firefight.

13. Depends on how you look at it, doesn't it?
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 02:13 AM by theHandpuppet
An insurgency is an uprising of the people WHO LIVE THERE. THEIR homes, THEIR families.

Reminds me about an ancestor of mine who related a story about being an insurgent in another war: "I remember when my father was whipped by the British in the cornfield, during the Revolutionary War, because he would not tell where his brother was. My uncle was a soldier during the Revolution. My brother was taken off by the British. I have voted for every President from George Washington down to Mr. Greeley." -- account of Mr. Moses Maynard.

I hate to tell you this, but if you consider every family who hides an insurgent as collaborators and all insurgents cowards, then our own country was founded by nothing more than a rabble of cowards and collaborators. WE are the invaders in this war.

9. or the isurgents *are* children
and women, and people.

Summary execution of civilians, when we are responsible for their security by the code of an occupying force,
just really does come across as race-murder. Hey, a bioweapon, or a neutron bomb would clean up all
those nasty insurgents as well, with a few collateral damages, and would'nt we all feel safe then!

17. Good point
Which is why it was FUCKING STUPID to invade a sovereign country that hadn't attacked us. Why the fuck do you think so many people were against this war. If you weren't a delusional fuckhead who thought we'd be greeted with flowers and honey, then you could have forseen this crap. (not the personal you, the general you.)

These fuckers who got us into this war were too chikenshit to fight in a war they supported (Vietnam.) Too bad they were such chickenshits or they might have learned something.

The only way to win a war of aggression is to completely crush the local populace and to repopulate with your own people. And anyone with an IQ higher than 70 and has read a history book knows this.

Stupid, fucking, war criminal assholes.

The whole fucking lot of them should be sent to the Hague for war crimes.

18. You mean the Iraqis against
the invasion right. 'Insurgents' is just a nice useful propaganda term. Iraqis are being slaughtered for resisting the illegal invasion of their homeland. Their kids are in danger because the US army is violating their rights and has seized their country. Your government and the puppets in place in Iraq have ordered their army to slaughter any Iraqi who resists this invasion.

I am fugging sick of this attempt to obfuscate reality.
