A friend of mine sent this in an email to me. Can anyone here verify its validity?

Republicans are making the "Sanctity of Marriage" a major issue.

Hmmmmmm...

Ronald Reagan - divorced the mother of two of his children to marry Nancy
Reagan, who bore him a daughter only 7 months after the marriage.

Bob Dole - divorced the mother of his child, who had nursed him through
the long recovery from his war wounds.

Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer.

Dick Army - House Majority Leader - divorced

Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas - divorced

Gov. John Engler of Michigan - divorced

Gov. Pete Wilson of California - divorced

George Will - divorced

Sen. Lauch Faircloth - divorced

Rush Limbaugh - Rush and his current wife Marta have six marriages and
four divorces between them.

Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia - Barr, not yet 50 years old, has been married
three times. Barr had the audacity to author and push the "Defense of
Marriage Act." The current joke making the rounds on Capitol Hill is "Bob
Barr...WHICH marriage are you defending?

Sen. Alfonse D'Amato of New York - divorced

Sen. John Warner of Virginia - divorced twice (once married to Liz Taylor).

Gov. George Allen of Virginia - divorced

Gov. Rudolph Guliani of NY - divorced twice

Henry Kissinger - divorced

Rep. Helen Chenoweth of Idaho - divorced

Sen. John McCain of Arizona - divorced

Rep. John Kasich of Ohio - divorced

Rep. Susan Molinari of New York - Republican National Convention Keynote
Speaker - divorced

8. Welcome to DU!
Wouldn't you agree that divorce is a much bigger threat to heterosexual marriage than gay marriage ever could be? :hi:

3. Let's not forget Strom Thurmond
and his sexual encounter with a Black family maid which produced a daughter.

And, as always, there's Newt and Livingston, and Barr.

5. I dont think they care about divorce as much
It's about homosexuality that pisses them off. They want marriage to be only between one man and one woman.

7. Oh no...... with all of those marriages/divorces......
it's not about ONE woman/one man.....it's about men & women 'getting together'.

If it were about ONE woman with ONE man, than all of those married/divorced/remarried/and divorced and remarried again folks might be called HYPOCRITES.....which, of course, no one would EVER think they were.....:eyes:

9. BS
It's just another cynical attempt by the neocons to rouse up their base when their approvals are turning into shit. We've seen that show before!

19. I wasn't refering to your
research as BS, I was referring to the Repugs' cynical attempts to rouse up their base when their approvals are in the crapper. Sorry I wasn't clear the first time.

12. Your friend is right -- I've read most of those before this
The worst offender really is Newt Gingrich, as far as I know. He served his first wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital being treated for cancer. He had a mistress (more or less) whom he used to tryst with at motels -- but he wouldn't spend the night, because he wanted to be able to say with a straight face that he had never "slept with her."

Newt's story and others came out during the Monica affair -- showing the astounding, utter hypocrisy of the Republican establishment, which they carry off without a shred of shame while destroying the reputations and careers of anyone who dares get in their way.

I really would not give a rat's patoot what consenting adult Repubs do behind closed doors, if only they were not so hypocritical about it and nasty-minded about everyone else.

However, the stories are okay to keep around, if only to email back to anyone of your acquaintance who sends you stuff purporting to show that Democrats are libertines threatening the sanctity of marriage.

Hekate

A lot of those people you mentioned are no longer in office, like Newt Gingrich, Alfonse d'Amato, Lauch Faircloth, etc., so maybe you should put "Former" in front of their titles.

As far as I know, Rudi Giuliani was never governor of New York.

You might also want to include Bob Livingston, who was going to preside over the Clinton impeachment until it was discovered that he himself was having an affair.

And then there was the Right Reverend and former Senator Tim Hutchinson of Arkansas, who helped drag his state's name through the mud by helping to lead the impeachment charge against fellow Arkansan Bill Clinton. After that, he dumped his wife and married a woman his daughter's age (and didn't even invite his kids to the wedding).

a year or so ago. That was his 3rd or 4th.
