Regarding this thread:
Are you too Sensitive to LOOK at the Children we've Paid to Kill?

There is one graphic picture in that thread; the title of the thread does not warn of the picture.

1. It won't hurt you to look, really.
Maybe you did, but I think EVERYONE in America should look, instead of hiding it or putting a disclaimer or warning on it.

2. Last I heard, this is a democracy - it is not up to you to determine what
people should see. Common courtesy requires a warning if graphic pictures are contained within a thread, as I replied to your original thread.

Just as * thinks he knows best, he is the "Decider", you seem to take that attitude as well.

3. I'll write you down as too sensitive.
I'm beyond being shocked by it all.

4. You may be beyond being shocked, but what about someone who

is suffering Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of having been in the war?

Do you also think that person needs to see the picture? Do you think the resulting trauma is necessary for that person's well-being?

Thank you for labeling the thread as graphic. My concern is about one person forcing others to view graphic pictures due to the lack of warning.

5. How many U.S. kids had to look at Zarqawi's Dead Ass?
Millions. We are too damned sensitive in America, and we need to see this shit for real, it's not pornography, it's OUR WAR.

6. You have a point there.
Every newscast and newspaper was festooned with his dead and bloodied head for days now sans warning. We only display those who we "meant" to kill.

8. That, quite frankly, wasn't acceptable either. I rarely read print
newspapers and don't watch TV, so I only managed to see one picture online - accidentally. And I felt it was inappropriate. Mainly because of what I know we are doing in Iraq - I don't need a stranger to decide to shock me by showing a graphic picture without warning - to know what's happening in Iraq.

Few people on DU need such an "education".

9. I'm not arguing against your position
The poster did make a good point, though. The media seems to have no problem with posthumous photos of the likes of Zarkawi.

11. Yes, you're right there. But there is also the danger of people becoming
desensitized to graphic pictures - in fact, I think that's already happened to a large extent, in part due to all the violence we see on TV and in the movies.

I don't disagree with a thread having a graphic picture; I just think people deserve a warning. Some people really cannot mentally handle such pictures, and with 90,000 DU members, there are bound to be such people in the group.

7. It is common courtesy to warn people when a thread has graphic
pictures. I appreciate your adding the warning.

I don't agree with your view about shocking people being acceptable.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

10. I like the idea of a disclaimer because some things I don't want to see
if you want to look at it go for it but don't force it on me, ok, sorry

12. I have PSTD
And sometimes a graphic depiction of torture will upset me for days and intrude my thoughts and my dreams to the point I can't sleep.
I have seen too much, reading it is enough.Maybe if people were taught empathy was a good thing, sensitivity was not'weakness' and victims are not to be hated and blamed for being wounded psychologically ,as kids they wouldn't see this awful stuff and remain unconcerned or 'shocked'and keep on surfing, and would act to stop it..
Trauma can mess you up for life. But a learned fear of empathy can mess up a culture so it traumatizes people and does not care.
