Mary Cheney's book sells fewer than 6,000 copies since release

Despite saturation media coverage when it was published a month ago, Mary Cheney's book Now It's My Turn has tanked at bookstores. Published by a conservative imprint of Simon & Schuster, the memoir has sold fewer than 6,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen Bookscan.

The book's sales have declined in each of the four weeks since its release, to only 574 copies sold for the week ending June 3. That's 77% fewer than its first-week sales of 2,445.

At this rate, it will be virtually impossible for Simon & Schuster to recoup the reported $1 million advance it paid Cheney for the book, which describes her life as the gay daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney. (The Advocate)

2. Didn't the Clintons' books sell enough to recoup the advances?
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 07:00 AM by rfranklin
I seem to remember the wingnuts going bananas and labeling those advances as "payoffs."

So what could this be characterized as?

Hillary Clinton's Book Sales Top a Million
Sales of former US first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's book "Living History" has surpassed 1 million copies in a month, her publisher announced Wednesday.

Sales of former US first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's book "Living History" has surpassed 1 million copies in a month, her publisher announced Wednesday.

"What has been particularly exciting is the speed with which ithas achieved such unprecedented sales levels," Simon & Schuster executive Carolyn Reidy said in a statement.

Record Sales for Clinton's Book
Bill Clinton's new book has outsold any book in history for first day sales. It may sell more copies than any book in history. Boy do the Clinton haters hate that. The media reviewers say the book is boring. But the public thinks different and are voting with their dollars. So - who is right? The public is.

Clinton is after all America's greatest president. And that's why everyone is so interested in him. We all long to go back to Clinton's America when we had peace and prosperity - when we were wondering what we were going to do with the surplus and people were suffering from "sudden wealth syndrome". Now we have war and terror - big brother reading our email - tracing our moves - listening to our phone calls - watching everything we buy and where we go - watching everything we do. We are so far in debt that we are afraid to think about it let alone talk about it. Americans are not safe anywhere and we talk about our alies like France and Canada as if they were our enemies.

American has fallen and we look back to the good old days and think about how great Clinton was. And we want to read his book because we want to compare him to our present day loser and wonder - can we ever go back? What happened to the Man from Hope?

if Hillary's book sold as much as 1 million copies. I'm still waiting to see that.

Edit: There are currently 83 reviews of Cheney's book here at Amazon.com:

I haven't read them all yet but some are interesting.

So far I think the reviews of Catkiller Frist's book are lots more entertaining. Trust me, you've gotta hit this link if you've never seen these reviews of Good People Beget Good People

9. I've noticed
That he doesn't wear the tie in promos anymore (I don't watch his "show.") Did somebody finally let him in on the secret that it made him look like an infantile jerk?

10. He said he would eat his shoes, if she sold a million copies.
He had Hillary on the show, and she brought him a cake shaped like a shoe so that he could eat it! He did eat the cake, but not his shoes.

Hmmm. S & S is a Viacom company. They also publish Hilary Clinton. Perhaps no political link.

6. I get more visitors to my web site than that.
Lots more. I average about 240 unique visitors a day. BWAHAHAHA! I didn't get no million-smacker advance, though! The truth is a freebie. Apparently, it costs big money to write lies like Cheney and Coulter do.

Then they'll give them away as door prizes at Republican fundraisers. There are legal ways to pay bribes.

16. At wholesale, that means they have recouped about $100,000 gross
Not counting the cost of printing, shipping, returns, etc. An unmitigated disaster. And the real money is in paperback; I doubt highly there will even BE a paperback edition.

Maybe this will start publishers rethinking offering these thugs book contracts. The only ones that sell are the ones wingnuts buy in bulk to give away or store in Scaife's mansion before shredding.
