George Carlin, Coulter To Face Off On Leno
This should be, um, fun.

GO GEORGE!!!

http://www.wnbc.com/entertainment/9360318/detail.html

LOS ANGELES -- "Tonight" host Jay Leno might want to consider wearing referee stripes on Wednesday's show when Ann Coulter and George Carlin are his guests.

Coulter, the acid-tongued conservative with a new book out, and Carlin, the quick-witted, antiestablishment comedian who's in the voice cast for the new animated film "Cars," were booked at separate times for the NBC late-nighter, a spokeswoman said Monday.

But the duo's meeting could produce serious fireworks for "Tonight," which usually limits its political fodder to Leno's bipartisan monologue jokes.

Coulter, author of "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," has drawn fire for attacking the four New Jersey widows who pushed for an independent commission to investigate the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attacks in which their husbands died.

cont'd...

Do you believe a person's voice doesn't count if they don't vote?

19. Better question
If you vote for someone in Congress, that one, single, solitary person represents, on average, about 600,00-700,000 people, and about 3 million people respectively. How much does your voice count anyway?

But there I go again with my pessimistic ramblings about the system. It's Fitzmas for Fitzsake!

15. Oops
On second thought - Old Leftie Lawyer might be right. George is as big on the First as I am (after all, that's why I like him.) As much as I hate to admit it - if given the power to censor Ann I would not do it - believing Jefferson's view that hateful speech is it's own worst enemy.

20. This isn't about that - he's not going to give up his own free speech
in this context - going head to head with her is not censoring her at all - and in a battle of wits he is bound to win. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. Never thought I'd say it, but poor Ann!!!!! She's going to be so humiliated!

25. pointing out that someone is full of shit...
is not infringing upon their right to free speech. If Carlin (or Matt Lauer, or anyone else) had some duct-tape and tried to wrap it around her mouth so she couldn't talk, that would be censoring her and that would be wrong. However, allowing the person to state his/her case and then totally destroying that person's argument and showing her to be the lying sack of shit that she is is absolutely not censorship... just damn good TV!

26. This should be fucking bullshit
if George Carlin insulted the widows created from one of the worst man-made disasters on american soil, republicans would be screaming to have this man castrated and banished from any form of exposure to the American public. There would be cries for total boycott.

Coulter does it and she's given a seat on Jay Leno's sofa?

I think the only one who should be boycotted is Jay Leno himself. If he actually gave a rat's ass about the 9/11 widows he would not be providing a public former for this hideous creature.

34. I agree with you completely.
It never ceases to amaze me what passes for acceptable commentary for conservatives, vs. liberals. And as you mentioned, it's not just the Free Republic crowd that allows it- it's the big media. They'll have conservatives on repeatedly who suggest everything from aborting black babies to lower the crime rate, to making GW Bush our "Supreme Leader", and that's considered just hunky dory. A liberal who makes a similarly controversial comment- like, say... Mike Malloy's comment on CNN that the Bush family is similar to the mafia... that person is cut off, kicked off, and not invited back.

29. This is a stunt; it's stupid.
Unfortunately, Carlin will take the role of the "godless liberal" and in that role will represent all of us when he faces off with Coulter. They're probably rehearsing right now.

I won't be watching.

32. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.
But I shudder to think how the media will play it - liberals are already portrayed as unpatriotic heathens. If the 'debate' ends up reinforcing Coulter's outrageously stupid remarks.....I think you know what I'm getting at here.
