Coffee may cut alcohol liver damage
:toast:

CHICAGO, Illinois (Reuters) -- Could Irish coffee be the perfect drink?

Researchers report that drinking coffee cuts the risk of cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol -- by 22 percent per cup each day -- but they stopped short of saying doctors should prescribe coffee for that reason.

The report from the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Oakland, California, was based on a look at data from 125,580 people.

"These data support the hypothesis that there is an ingredient in coffee that protects against cirrhosis, especially alcoholic cirrhosis," concluded the report published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

and/or being a menance on the public roads. It's win/win to not drink to excess.

20. Well, the Buena Vista (my favorite breakfast place of all time) is famous
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 02:26 PM by TahitiNut
... for their Irish coffee. Heaven is an early weekend morning, parking SoMa, cable car to the wharf, and breakfast at the Buena Vista when it opens, looking at the flowers around the cable car stop and chatting with tourists from all over the world at tables for six. For 15 years, that was part of my favorite way to spend a weekend. Buena Vista eggs and coffee - with good company.

39. There's a great scene from West Wing
When Margret is talking to the Surgeon General about how everything causes cancer in lab rats. She asks the Surgeon General if perhaps lab rats are pre-disposed to cancer. The Surgeon General replies "You know, we haven't ruled that one out."

37. Switch to rolling your own tobacco
I thought this might be an interesting way to go about quitting or at least cutting down. Promise yourself that you can smoke but only if you roll your own tobacco. Chances are that you will drastically cut the amount that you smoke per day because it's such a pain in the ass.

27. I think it goes something like this:
The beer will take care of the prostate, the coffee will take care of the cirrhosis caused by the beer and, I guess, cigarettes will take care of the jitters caused by the coffee.:) Who knew that vices could be so good for you?
