EXCLUSIVE: No Deal for Karl Rove

Sometimes people just don't know when to cry "uncle." I do. I asked Robert Luskin this morning if Karl Rove has made a deal with Fitzgerald. His response:

There has never, ever been any discussion of a deal in any way, shape or form.

Which is exactly what Luskin told me weeks ago. It's over, folks. Karl Rove will not be charged with a crime. He's cooperated with Fitzgerald by testifying to the grand jury five times and providing whatever information he had without a safety net. Without a 5k. Without assurances he would not be indicted. That's a hell of a risk, but Luskin pulled it off. My hat's off to Luskin.

..................

And yes, I think Jason needs to out his sources. If there was and will be no Indictment of Rove, his sources lied. If any are lawyers at Patton Boggs, I hope they lose their jobs and their law licenses.

Update:

Mr. Corallo added the following:

Jeralyn - it's over. You might want to tell Marc Ash and Jason Leopold that they are free to leave the "lockdown" on the 4th floor of Patton Boggs anytime they wish. Frankly, we suspected they were just there for the free donuts all along...

3. The difference between Repubs and Dems at this moment...
The repubs are already in full campaign mode and doing a very good job of it...Bombing Zarquai, winning in Ca 50 (I knew this was a bust back in the primary when Busby couldn't get 50% + 1. If they wouldn't put a Dem. in then they weren't going to do it in a gnereal election and if the mind set of the red staters is such that they re not willing to get the crowd out who let a Duke Cunningham exist then there really is no hope for true change in the congress and saying we almost won only means we "ALMOST" have contorl of the congress ,almost only counts in horseshoes, grenades and don't mean crap in politics, Rove beats the rap, Bush flys to Iraq (Does anyone think that Rove didn't get a heads up about his squirming out of the prosecution and then sent Bush off on a PR tour to grab headlines?) Folks they are in campaign mode and as usuall they are masterful. Bushs numbers will be in the forties very fast and continue to rise through the summer as more PR stunts will be forthcoming. The dems as usuall peaked to soon and the Repubs will retain control in November much to my shagrin but you can't win by expecting them to always screw up sooner or latter they will hit a couple of home runs. And the Haditha thing is a bust. They will have an investigation and all will be exonorated and the matter will be dropped. Folks we are out of luck. Nice try however. These guys a just to good. The only way they will be romoved is if OBL was at the door and threatining to take over the country and I am not even sure if they would lose the election then. This also means that another Judge will be seated by Bush on the supreme court as I can't imagine that the old guy (can't remember his name right now) can survive much longer....but I could be wrong.

it is true that in CA-50 the Dems could have played things differently, I have to strongly disagree with your assessment of the situation as it pertains vis-a-vis the Repubs v. Dems.

So Bush got to fly in to Iraq for 5 hours...big deal...when he can have an "announced visit" - that will be impressive. So they got Zarqawi....so that bought them some distraction time from the failed War in Iraq...but that was yesterday's story and his death is going to do nothing to change things in Iraq and they will be on to creating the next Boogieman. I disagree on the assessment by some of the news pundits and you that "Rove beats the rap"....not so fast....it ain't over...its just begun. The "haditha thing" (it was a massacre of Innocent civilians by the way, not a "thing") is not a bust and the matter will not be going away with charges being dropped and people exonerated....stay tuned....there will be much ugliness being revealed about how Bush's War is winning hearts and minds everywhere.

"Folks, we are out of luck"...???????? "These guys a(re) just to(o) good?

Hardly...I think your assessment of the situation was a nice try....and yes, you could be wrong and I believe very much so. While I won't disagree (as many here won't either on the DU) that there are many in the Dem party with the heads up their a-- and the seaming incapability to fight the Republicans or be an opposition party, there are however many that are very capable and I think the Republicans are scared shitless as they well should be because there is hardly anything out there to be cheering about these days, certainly not about the economy, the war, etc. Bush may see a little "bump" in his ratings, but I doubt the man will ever see the 40's ever again.

PS: The old guy's name is John Paul Stevens...and he's going be around at least another 5-10 years.

6. With his reputation
What they've failed to perceive is this: Rove's cut-throat reputation has always been lower than the lowest slithering asp on the mummified toe of Cleopatra's corpse and his followers LIKE it that way.

The backwash is so enamored with winning one for the Republican team, even if losing power would be best for the good of the country, that they're applauding the fact that Rove found a way to wriggle his way out of a long court battle and slink back on bloviated belly into the Oval Office.

Despite the months of investigation, the days of uncertainly, yes, Rove has emerged with the same reputation he's always had - dishonorable, unscrupulous and unethical.
