Why do we even trust authorities in America? FBI, CIA, polilce?
They all have a past and present of being as evil as any group out there. I was just viewing the history of the FBI during the 1960's. It was shameful what they did to and did not do to protect blacks. And the CIA's part in Iran contra is well-known. So why do we even blink when the CIA won't even protect its own like Plame and will not tell the truth about what actually happened? The fact that Rove has escaped even indictment (without a doubt he had something to do with the outing by his own mouth) is so telling about the kind of government we are living under.

2. We have to trust some authority
I trust my local police department and they have proven their effectiveness to me on countless occassions. That's not saying they may not have screwed up on occasion or made some hasty decisions.
On the other hand, the world would be a whole lot better off without the CIA. We should immediately dispand the DEA.
The FBI does good work for the most part, but people at the top have let politics and personal vendettas destroy their reputation.
Public oversight of all these institutions, as well as the Military, is what we need. And I don't mean political oversight, but true accountability, if that's even possible in the US today.

3. We used to have at least the illusion of representation in government
Now the individual citizen has worth only as he or she is capable of serving the corp-state.

4. You trust the authority?
I don't trust the authority. The only authority in this country that has been worthy of my trust is the People, and frankly I've lost quite a bit of faith in them.

5. i trust an authority like 7up
never have, never will.

it is impossible to be too cynical about the american government. it feigns sincerity, it feigns incompetency, it feigns naivete. i believe all governments do this, and have done this through all time.

watch what our government does, not what chimpstain blathers about. it believes in raw corporate power, and that is it.

9. I always thought a basic characteristic of an American was an ingrained
distrust of authority. But then I was a young adult in the 60s; I 'learned' never to believe anything the government says without checking and checking and checking.....

I got really freaked out when I realized that although I liked Carter and voted for him, as soon as he spoke as president I simply couldn't 'believe' him; I had 'learned' in the 60s that presidents lie (ie, LBJ and Nixon).

The only presidential statements Clinton made that I ever really 'believed' were statements he made about race relations. One of my best memories of him is when he had the Little Rock seven (?) in the WH to commemorate their bravery in the fall of 1957 when Ike called out 1000 paratroopers to enforce the order to desegregate Little Rock High School.

10. The way I look at it is whatever the government regulatory
department may be it is surrounded and devoured by the industry that it is supposed to regulate.

The FDA is controlled by big pharma.

The FCC is controlled by the corporate media.

The Dept of the Interior is controlled by mining and timber interests.

The FBI is controlled by organized crime. When J E Hoover testified before congress that there is no such thing as organized crime in America it should have set off alarms and sirens.

Corporations must be stripped of "person-hood" or this can never change.
