Letter from the VA
Sorry if this is old news but I have an 8 week old son and haven't been checking in to DU as much these days.

Last week I got a letter form the VA about the stolen personal data. It explained what happened and gave some suggestions about what to do if anyone thought they might be indanger of identity theft or something.

Just curious...did any other former military at DU receive one of these letters? Is anybody taking any measures to protect themselves?

2. I received one
also about a week ago. Both my wife and I called the three credit agencies listed and put fraud alerts on our credit. I would recommend that anyone who has information at the VA put fraud alerts on their credit.

5. EVery veteran since the early 1970's data was stolen. My
husband got one as well. Recently I heard on the news that there was apparently a gang of teens breaking into peop;le's homes and stealing the computers, then erasing the hard drives and reselling. They are hoping that is the case with the hard drive that was stolen with all the info on it.

8. Got one
Actually this is the SECOND data theft letter I've received recently. I received one from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants a few weeks ago. They lost the membership data (440,000 CPAs and affiliated members) because they sent a hard disk out to get repaired and FedEx or who ever lost it.

I've managed to avoid this for 40 years and now it happens twice in two months. WTF!

Needless to say, I've got monitoring on my credit reports now.
