Was the Zarqawi hit timed to Bush's trip.
We're looking at a rather remarkable example of political theater.

The killing of the most wanted terrorist in Iraq--complete with framed headshot no less--is followed by the unexpected visit of the President to meet with the new Iraqi prime minister.

Karl Rove comes out of hiding newly freed from the worry of being indicted for perjury and launches an attack against Democratic critics of the war.

Does anyone really think these events are not related?

I was willing to give the idea that Zarqawi's death was what it appeared--a case of good intelligence and a chance taken--and avoid conspiracy theories.

Now with all these other things going on I'm about to don the tinfoil. I believe they had Zarqawi in thier sights and that this trip was planned with the idea that they would actually have a victory to celebrate.

Please tell me that I'm crazy.

3. It's most likely the other way around
Bush's trip was timed to take advantage of Zarqawi's death.

Too bad the violence in Iraq hasn't subsided at all and the Iraqi prime minister is planning a massive operation to get control of Baghdad.

7. But the trip, they say, was planned for weeks....so it seems like
Zarqawi's death could have been timed...they could have gotten him before, they waited to start the media blitz rolling....

These guys are masters of the stagecraft. Wag the dog indeed. By the way, how did Kerry's withdrawal resolution go?

11. The other way around, I expect. They're trying to build momentum.
When thy got the news about Zarqawi, they decided it was time for a little media blitz to try to gain some ground.

13. Bush Trip Required a month of planning
They knew, it's always just theater. The guy they killed and photographed was part of the plan, kind of like a safari the white hunters used to do in Africa.

The president's surprise visit to Iraq on Tuesday, a sequel to an earlier one on Thanksgiving 2003, capped about a month of secretive planning.
