1. will America become the "beacon of freedom" again?
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 06:21 PM by peacebird
Will America recover? Or will America continue its mindless slide into fascism?

5. when was it ever a 'beacon of freedom'?
i mean, really. it may have SOLD itself that way, but it was basically formed to protect rich white landowners from 'unfair' taxes. any 'freedoms' for the poor or working class, such as the 40 hour workweek, the end of slavery, or women's suffrage, have been bought with blood.

we can't get the country BACK from the oligarchs when we never had it in the first place.

hell yes i'm cynical. the entire raison d'etre of the bush administration has been to reassert the 'proper', traditional relationship of capital to labor; master to servant.

7. You are right.
All those millions and millions of immigrants to the U.S., from the beginning of our history until today, of all races and nationalities, were actually morons and imbeciles not to realize how fucked up we were compared to most other countries. Good point.

8. you forgot the sarcasm simile
just because you want something to be true does'nt mean it is. many immigrants thought the streets were literally paved with gold. i didn't say that immigrants were morons, or that other countries were better. they're not. i said this is an oligarchy, and it has always been.

politicians, now & in years past, use our national mythos to propagandize our populace into compliance with their policies - witness our current dilemma.

i wish we were the country we think we are. i'm not the first to say this - i'm not that clever.

Thanksgiving Prayer

Thanks for the wild turkey and
the passenger pigeons, destined
to be shit out through wholesome
American guts.

Thanks for a continent to despoil
and poison.

Thanks for Indians to provide a
modicum of challenge and
danger.

Thanks for vast herds of bison to
kill and skin leaving the
carcasses to rot.

Thanks for bounties on wolves
and coyotes.

Thanks for the American dream,
To vulgarize and to falsify until
the bare lies shine through.

Thanks for the KKK.

For nigger-killin' lawmen,
feelin' their notches.

For decent church-goin' women,
with their mean, pinched, bitter,
evil faces.

Thanks for "Kill a Queer for
Christ" stickers.

Thanks for laboratory AIDS.

Thanks for Prohibition and the
war against drugs.

Thanks for a country where
nobody's allowed to mind the
own business.

Thanks for a nation of finks.

Yes, thanks for all the
memories-- all right let's see
your arms!

You always were a headache and
you always were a bore.

Thanks for the last and greatest
betrayal of the last and greatest
of human dreams.

10. Thanks for the U.S.
that saved the lives of my parents from death and despair when almost all other countries around the world refused them sanctuary. My parents had nothing, but the U.S., virtually alone in the world, took them in. They were concentration camp survivors in prison by the British on Cyprus. (The British called it a DP camp.) They came here with no friends, no relatives, no money, and could not even speak English, but they thanked God every day for the United States of America. They are dead now, but they loved this country and would feel you are a spoiled, ignorant, elitist fool. For the sake of their memory and their feelings for America (they were committed liberals who never voted for a Republican in their lives) I felt I had to speak up. For the desperate, and the hopeless America has been the greatest sanctuary in the world for centuries. As it was for my parents and millions of others.

6. Can't we just export it to other democratically challenged
nations so they can have a rollicking good time too wondering where their vote went, or their tax dollars for that matter not to mention their oil revenues.
