Different topic: Gitmo circular reasoning, please help me
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 11:52 PM by uppityperson
I heard news today (NPR) that the SCOTUS is hearing some case about whether or not to charge Gitmo detainees/prisoners/pows/etc. So the USA is NOT going to release any more prisoners until after the SCOTUS decides whether or not they need to be charged to be kept in Gitmo. Even though the military person on the news said he knew of people to be released, since they were "no longer a threat", these people will not be released until they find out if they have to be charged, at which time it will be more difficult to release them. So, rather than just holding whomever they want, for however long they want, and releasing them as they want, no one will be released until the SCOTUS says they have to be charged.

My brain hurts. Help please. I am sharing a modem, so will be checking in periodically. Peace and thank you.

1. I caught some of that...
and it sounds like they are trying to establish criteria for allowing detainees to be held, because as it is right now they are in a kind of no-man's land legally and have no due process...but I could be way off, I was multitasking while I was driving.

2. That part seemed good, but when he went on about not releasing anyone
until they found out if anyone needed to be charged "and then it will take longer to release them", I had to shut it off. This was after that poor Chinese person who didn't want to go back to China, so had to spend yrs in Gitmo while they found somewhere else for him to go. My brain, my brain.
