Now that Dan Abrams has given up his MSNBC show to run the third-place cable news outlet, he might want to focus on the rising tensions between two of his prime-time personalities: Keith Olbermann and Rita Cosby.

Olbermann, whose "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" airs weeknights at 8, apparently has precious little respect for Cosby, whose "Rita Cosby: Live & Direct" airs at 10 p.m.

"Rita's nice," Olbermann wrote to a fan from his MSNBC E-mail account, "but dumber than a suitcase of rocks." Yesterday Cosby retorted: "Keith got it wrong. I'm not that nice."

But a Cosby intimate gasped when informed of Olbermann's E-mail. "That's incredibly disappointing," he said.

An MSNBC spokesman didn't dispute the authenticity of the months-old E-mail, which came to light this week after the recipient shared it with this column on condition of anonymity....

He's right, of course, but you don't go around publicly bashing a coworker, even if he/she is a vapid airhead like Rita Cosby. It's rude, unprofessional, and it makes you look more than a little pompous and hypocritical.

I am sure you will agree that it hardly qualifies as a public bashing.

An email to a "fan" is hardly the same as talking privately to a trusted friend. It's not quite as extreme as going on air and calling Cosby dumb as rocks in front of the primetime audience, but it's still public as there is no expectation of privacy when you send an email to an untrusted party (particularly if you are a celebrity). At the very least, an email like that will end up on a fan website somewhere. And that's assuming it was a legitimate fan in the first place. For all Keith knew, that fan was a wingnut or a Faux news intern looking to get him on record saying something embarrassing. You don't say unprofessional things about coworkers in public correspondence, period.

(And before someone accuses me otherwise, Countdown is the only cable news show I make a point of watching regularly.)

I've been chased by gangs of white boys, slapped by women, gaveled by judges, beat up by a bully, and had rocks thrown at me by kids. But man 0 man, whenever I see her pitbull face in a commercial for her show I yip, howl, scream, and hide under the couch.

A combination of 'Fatal Attraction' and 'Accidental Tourist' with a goodly dose of 'Looking For Ms. Goodbar,' I'd avoid being in any room with her without at least three exits. If I were a passenger on an airplane and she got on, I'd get off immediately. She's a Stephen King novel in a blond wig.

Compared to her, Rita Cosby is a pleasure.

For someone so concerned with justice, Nancy Grace sure does seem to have a lot of disregard for the legal process and the fact that people are innocent until proven guilty.

Now, at least Scarborough country is on in between them, so we haven't heard the latest news from Aruba in a while. :shrug:

1.) In Olbermann v. Cosby, the prime demo shows Mr. Olbermann a clear winner, so this comment allows nearly no risk to Countdown.

2.) It gets headlines. In this case, there's nothing wrong with getting some press, especially when stating something so obvious. Plus, people get attracted to family war (attracted Trump v Stewart (albeit a little late to be effective), lack thereof did not help the self-hating Cheney's book).

3.) It does a great deal of the boss's...I mean, new boss's dirty work for them. MSNBC will need to shake things up, and Cosby won't survive that. And, since they've been there so long, Mr. Olbermann may know what Abrams, et al. are thinking anyway.

4.) Mr. Olbermann attacked Cosby specifically, but the concept of "dumb" in the news in general, when everyone else in MSM panders to "dumb". It's about time.

Just because gossip columnist Lloyd says it doesn't make it fact. After all, this is the assclown that lied about Mr. Olbermann's Q&A interview on C-SPAN, and when called on it, attacked again with more bullshit.

Plus, it could have been planted, someone claimed to have been a fan. Wouldn't be the first time.
