82nd Airborne going to IRAN????
I didn't see this here yet, but I thought it was worth mentioning, does anyone else know of anybody who has a similar situation to this mother-in-law?

82nd Airborne Going to Iran?
Submitted by davidswanson on Thu, 2006-06-15 00:27. Iran
Received from a soldier's mother-in-law:

"My son-in-law has had orders for a 7/27 deployment to Iraq for several months. He's with the 82nd airborne at Ft. Bragg. Today his orders for Iraq are "on hold" for 2 - 12 months and he was advised his Apache helicopter units are being held now for deployment to IRAN....Just wanted to alert you to this startling announcement that won't be seen on any evening news show."

3. Wouldn't surprise me
It wouldn't surprise me if the entire 18th Airborne Corps is preparing for Iran. We've got a warmongering chickenhawk in the White House. His poll numbers are at Nixon-like levels. So, he needs to invade another country to keep his red staters happy. It's going to take a very long time for this country to recover from the Bush reign of error.

5. Sounds like bullshit.
"Okay men, the date for the secret invasion is July 27. But feel free to tell your family and have them post it on the Internet."

6. Perhaps, but;
Rove is spinning the Mr. Big killing into " Let's declare victory and leave" as to free up our involvement to be ready to go into Iran. Don't know if the 82nd thing holds water or not, but to be sure we're planning the invasion of Iran as we speak.

7. Get these stupid conspiracy theories and dumb rumors off DU
Do you have some pathological impulse control problem that prevents you from not spreading rumors like this?

store told me that several of the young men who also work there and are in the Guard have told her that they have been told they are going to Iran...

10. There is a reason it won't be shown on the evening news.
I doubt that something of this magnitude would be common knowledge that a mother-in-law would have access to.

Now I know I am going to get flamed for this. But be warned I have book marked this thread and on 7/27 I will be sending PM'S.

11. The Brits will watch the B2s take off of Diego Garcia six hours ahead of
the start. Just like they did in 2003. Then we'll know.
Rumors of transport to one theater or another are common in the military. Just like those mythic port calls I never got.

Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 09:18 PM by LunaC
The USS Cole, USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Enterprise will all soon be in the Western Pacific and Middle East to join the USS Ronald Reagan already operating in the Gulf. I don't know if it's SOP to have so many ships in the region or if this is a build-up? Does anybody know?

18. Friend in the Air Force being deployed somewhere not Iraq or Afgh.
His deployment keeps getting delayed. It's now scheduled for May 29th, I believe. He won't say exactly where he's being deployed to, just that it's not to one of the places I'd expect. Oman (sp?) was mentioned, although I'm not sure where that is.

No doubt in my mind these assholes will do it, but they're having a tough time getting the generals to agree. It would be so much nicer for them if the military were being more compliant. That won't stop them, of course, but might delay them a little.
