TO & Rove, Coulter & Leno, Zogby & Digby? WTF??? Save the S. Central Farm!
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 12:06 AM by Yollam
Not that these don't deserve discussion, but of all the things going on in the last couple days, the only one that has really gotten my goat is the South Central Community Farm, which is about to be bulldozed to make room for a Wal-Mart warehouse.

Daryl Hannah has gone to jail for this, hundreds of people are going down to try to save it.

I'm just a little disappointed that there is so much fascination with all this wonkish stuff, and seemingly so little interest in a farm that helps sustain a community of real, decent, human people, who work the plot with their own hands.

Please go to their website to see what you can do.

Here's a form for sending a message to local politicians.

1. I was also disappointed that when Jon Stewart mentioned Darryl Hannah
was up in a Walnut tree, he never went into the details of WHY she was up in the tree. It is definitely worth bringing some national attention to this matter.

Please don't forget that all these talking heads, including the ones who seem to be on our side are actors. As soon as it is good for their careers they will switch party's or anything they can do to stay on top. When they stand up and make definitive statements as Rob Reiner or Redford or cher or the dixie chick, when they have something to lose can you believe them.

2. Slowly, I am starting to see the light.
All this ridiculous obsession with Jay Leno/Ann Coulter/Hollywood is starting to really distract and detract from important issues.

Thank you for this post. I am learning.

4. Darryl's video blog
She's got several great videos on the farm, and other stuff too. But you're right, DU has always paid more attention to silly stuff than drawing attention to truly important issues. I get frustrated about it sometimes, but pretty much accept that's the way this place is. Some people come here after spending the day doing important things, and just want to blow off steam. But I don't think that's true of most.

5. It was good to see her on Larry King tonight.
He sort of tried to bring in the serious nature, but he is not that good at stuff like that.

6. Someone should hang a big flag or banner saying "Arnold, Think Green!"
and in smaller letters, "Win some votes here".

I know it sounds a bit hoakie, and it don't mean you still have to vote for him, but it couldn't hurt.

Just a thought.

I'm with you on this. We have them here. It's like a cottage industry for urban neighborhoods.

8. Farm
I read some about this and it was complicated, involved eminent domain in the 80s and a realter who sold it to the city, then bought it back for what he had been paid for it back then. There was some confusion about why her organization couldn't get it.

9. Reminds me an awful lot
of Ronald Reagan and the People's Park.

"If there has to be a bloodbath, then let's get it over with"

Same shit, different decade.

10. thank you very much . . .
I have zero interest in the Rove/TO business, and even less in what's-her-name (yes, even sitting next to Carlin) . . .

I DO have considerable interest in election fraud (both past and present), corporate ownership of Congress and the Executive, the 9/11 whitewash, the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan/Iran, the loss of civil rights and liberties, the abandonment of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, domestic spying, the use of depleted uranium (and other equally heinous) weapons, the crumbling foundations of our economy, environmental destruction . . .

and folk music . . .
