I think Keith O may be in some hot water...or not....

It's 'Putdown With Keith Olbermann'

Dueling hosts Keith Olbermann and Rita Cosby (below) could hand the network’s new chief, Dan Abrams, his first battle.

Now that Dan Abrams has given up his MSNBC show to run the third-place cable news outlet, he might want to focus on the rising tensions between two of his prime-time personalities: Keith Olbermann and Rita Cosby. Olbermann, whose "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" airs weeknights at 8, apparently has precious little respect for Cosby, whose "Rita Cosby: Live & Direct" airs at 10 p.m.

"Rita's nice," Olbermann wrote to a fan from his MSNBC E-mail account, "but dumber than a suitcase of rocks." Yesterday Cosby retorted: "Keith got it wrong. I'm not that nice."

But a Cosby intimate gasped when informed of Olbermann's E-mail. "That's incredibly disappointing," he said.

An MSNBC spokesman didn't dispute the authenticity of the months-old E-mail, which came to light this week after the recipient shared it with this column on condition of anonymity.

In his E-mail, Olbermann was also dismissive of then-MSNBC President Rick Kaplan, who left the network last week with six months to go on his three-year contract.

1. Expect ANOTHER surge right for MSNBC - just in time for the next election.
Dan Abrams is Elliot Abrams cousin and Elliot Abrams was indicted for his role in IranContra. Dan Abrams attacks Kerry at every opportunity.

This is not journalism coming from MSNBC - it's revenge for the hard work done in this country by the progressives of the 60s, 70s and 80s.

5. He'sson of Floyd Abrams of the ACLU
I don't want to defend Danny Boy, but if you're going to bring up his family ties, I think his father is a more important one.

9. All you needed to do is listen to his reporting over the years - he is NOT
his father. He's been around for years - how would anyone claim his reporting is honest journalism?

3. I don't understand how Rita
has a job at MSNBC her voice is so annoying I can't watch her to form an opinion about her..From the commercials I have seen she isn't usually given the best stories to run with either.

7. Olbermann is right - she is as dumb as a rock.

Anyone who has listened to her can tell her candle is not the brightest.

4. KO shouldn't have emailed his private thoughts to a fan---that being said,
I love his show. He is very bright and understands what's going on in Washington. He is one of the best interviewers around and his comments and questions are insightful and underscore his grasp of the serious topics of our day.

Rita Cosby does the softer fluff like the Natalee Holloway disappearance in Aruba and the Duke rape case. There is a demand for that kind of reporting and anchoring but I prefer KO's hard news and biting sarcasm against people like O'Lielly. Those of us who like KO should write to Dan Abrams. I think the latter is a reasonable guy, from what I've seen on his show (which has been fluff in the past but is lately turning to more serious matters like the Libby case and NSA spying).

12. Update: KO has apologized in response to the outing of further emails
looks like he was attacked by a couple of freepers and he didn't hold back...who the eff is this Lloyd Grove anyways?

****************************

Principles Keith can swear by

Keith Olbermann's angry E-mail responses to critical viewers included broadsides against Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter. Olbermann apologized for his messages.Keith Olbermann's vacation isn't going so well.

He was forced to apologize yesterday after more of his E-mails found their way to my inbox and exposed the host of MSNBC's "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" as insulting and frequently obscene in an acrimonious exchange with two viewers who taunted him.

Olbermann's antagonists, who asked not to be named, repeatedly claimed in their June 8 E-mails that dead Al Qaeda terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was Olbermann's "hero," prompting the television star to advise: "Hey, save the oxygen for somebody whose brain can use it. Kill yourself."

After I forwarded that and other E-mails to an MSNBC exec, Olbermann wrote: "I apologize to anyone who might take offense at my part of this correspondence. It goes without saying that I should not have replied to these abusive and hateful E-mails, but I wonder how many of us could receive literally hundreds of them questioning our patriotism, religion and ethnic origin, without succumbing to the natural wish to confront such hate?"

Here are some examples of Olbermann "confronting hate":

# "Given how far you are from knowing your a- from your elbow about my industry, you couldn't be stupider, wronger, or dumber ..."

# "Go - your mother."

# "You 'Americans' still watching that evil f- O'Reilly?"

Apparently, they are. Fox News' Bill O'Reilly draws six times the viewership of his 8 p.m. weekday rival.

MSNBC declined to comment yesterday, but Olbermann is scheduled to return to work on Monday.

13. Rating, Money & Strawman Games
Olbermann's role at MSNBC was to create a sense that this network wasn't Faux...it wasn't a right wing jag bag...even though most of the time it is. Several managements over the past 4 years attempted to turn the network into Faux lite and millions of GE money was thrown at Cosby, Scarborough, Carlson, Buchanan and others to turn this third-rate network into a player. It hasn't worked. The only positive has been Olbermann...and then in limited measure. Rick Kaplan all but split the network into various camps...and I'll bet there's no love lost between Cosby and Scarborough or Tweety or some of the bigger ego in that place...but it was Keith's Emails that Lloyd Grove got and away we go.

I'm hopeful that Dan Abrams has some of the wisdom of his father...Floyd...a great journalist...who see the need to present balance on their network as attempting to be a Faux Lite has been a disaster. Mediabistro constantly has the cable ratings and MSNBC shows bring up the rear...primarily Cosby and Carlson...two big money bust outs who I suspect will be let go when their contracts expire.

Keith's been one of the few positives in this network over the past year...bringing in a younger audience that all three news network would die for. You didn't see the network start re-running Bow Tie boy during the day...or Rita Rita Auruba Maid...it was Countdown that has been promoted.

Looks like Grove is hoping for a media cat fight...the stuff his column lives for...and he knows Olbermann's history at MSNBC and Faux and can't help but try to stir up the shit. It also draws attention to Olbermann's show that could bring in even more new eyes. As the promotional axiom goes..."Say Good, Say Bad...Just Say". It's worked for the right wing hate machine very effectively.

20. Nope . . . Maury and Connie are gone
thank God there show was just cancelled, it was truly one of the worst things I have ever seen, like watching a local cable access show.

As for Olbermann, what the hell is he thinking? Some of those responses are quite articulate and rather direct. Maybe a better solution would have been to not respond.

Accoring to Keith, he's safe becuase he, "doesn't answer to anybody." I wonder if Abrams, Griffin and Capus (MSNBC brass) would agree. It looks like things are a little unstable at MSNBC right now.

19. She's horrible and her voice makes me cringe
I typically record Keith and sometimes it would catch her into and I couldn't get to the remote fast enough. Keith needs a good show to round out their primetime. However, color bars would be an improvement over her show.
