Troop withdrawal is up to the Iraqi parliament?!!!

Bush yesterday:

"I'm going to make it clear to them again right here that we're going -- we'll stay with them and help them succeed."

"I know there is a lot of discussion about troop levels. Those troop levels will be decided upon by General Casey. He will make the recommendations, in consultation with an Iraqi government. But whatever decision General Casey makes, the message is going to be, we stand with you. In other words, if you're more capable it requires less troops, but nevertheless, we're still with you."

Iraqi officials differ on issue of troop withdrawals

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraqi officials can't seem to agree on when U.S. and other forces will be leaving their country.

The national security adviser says he expects the security situation to improve to the point that some forces can leave by the end of this year, more will leave by the end of next year and "maybe" all the forces will leave by mid-2008.

But Iraq's minister of national security won't go that far. He says the issue of troop withdrawal is up to the Iraqi parliament.
