My idea dream team would be big Al and Russ in the WH, Wes Clark
as Secretary of State, John Conyers as Attorney General, Dennis Kuchinich as the head of the new Department of Peace, possibly John Edwards as the head of FEMA, Ted Kennedy as Senate majority leader and Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the house. So many good deserving Democrats to pull from that we could change the course that we as a nation are on. Peace and prosperity depends on us getting it right this time, possibly the last chance we have. Hey, an old man can dream can't he.

2. That sounds like an amazing lineup.
I want it. Can we have it? If not, why not?

The world would like us again

Can you imagine the changes?

I feel stoned just thinking about it.

:toast: :hi:

5. The originator of the Department of Peace idea . . .
was Senator Jennings Randolph of West Virginia, an old-style progressive who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1932. Senator Randolph introduced legislation to create a Department of Peace in 1946, "with the goal of strengthening America's capacity to resolve and manage international conflicts by both military and nonmilitary means" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennings_Randolph).

He was a good man with a lot of good ideas. He once told me that his deepest disappointment in his political career was with eighteen-year-olds who did not take advantage of their ability to vote. He first introduced that amendment in 1942. He also created legislation that forced mental institutions to remove the chains that were used to subdue patients. On his desk, he had a metal sculpture, made from the melted-down chains from one of those institutions.

I dearly wish we had more Jennings Randolphs today.

6. My dream is Wes Clark in the Oval Office
VP Carl Levin, or John Kerry, or Barbara Boxer, or Russ Feingold; in any case, a solid legislator, who knows how to maneuver a legislative agenda through Congress.

My dream Attorney General is John Kerry, because he would truly kick ass; failing that, Elliot Spitzer or John Edwards.

Al Gore on energy and environment, so he can do what's really in his heart, and because he and Wes are on exactly the same page; or Brian Schweitzer if he could be dragged to DC.

Head of FEMA would be James Lee Witt; no competition here.

Secretary of Defense, retired General John M. Shalikashvili (would take special dispensation for timing, I think); but if it must be more of a civilian, then again John Kerry or Carl Levin.

Secretary of State, James Rubin or, if he could and would, Bill Clinton.

Homeland Security, Richard Clarke.

Civil Rights, Charlie Rangel or Ted Kennedy.

Economic Development, Mark Warner.

Health and Human Services, Howard Dean (although I would hate to lose him from the DNC); if not, Hillary Clinton.

Treasury, Jon Corzine.

Human Rights, Samantha Power.

UN Ambassador, again James Rubin or Bill Clinton.

Department of Peace, which Wes had in his 2004 platform, btw, Dennis Kucinich or Ted Kennedy.
