Coulter says she can't attack 9/11 widows because of their moral authority. If you are tempted for a second to think that might be a sincere argument, you only have to look at how the right uses ALL the victims of 9/11 and the troops, especially those who have been killed.
Any criticism of the Patriot Act, the War in Iraq, or any other anti-democratic action of the Bushies is defended with 9/11 first. When someone calls for withdrawal from Iraq, or questions our reasons for being there, the Bushies use the troops, especially the fallen, as human shields, instead of defending their policy on its own merits. We saw this most glaringly when former CIA analyst and presidential briefer Ray McGovern asked Rumsfeld why he lied about WMD in Iraq and Rumsfeld fell back on the
the troops believed they were there. RUMSFELD: You are... Le...,Let me, Let me give you an example it's easy for you to make a charge, Um, but
why do you think that the men and women in uniform every day when they came out of Kuwait and went into Iraq put on chemical weapon protective suits, because they like the, ah, style (laughter)
They honestly believed that there where chemical weapons Saddam Hussein had used Chemical weapons on his own people previously, he'd used them on his neighbor the Iranians and they believed he had those weapons. We believed he had those weapons.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/stories/2006/05/04/transcriptOfRumsfeldAndMcgovern.htmlThe difference between the 9/11 widows and the Bushies use is the widows were related to those who died and are not profiting, at least not in the hundreds of billions, from their deaths or using their deaths to justify killing several times more people.
I was going to rummage around and find more of the Bushies using 9/11 victims and the troops as human shields for their arguments, but it occurs to me just about everyone here probably has one that sticks in their craw. Post the quote and link, and when we get enough of them, I'll send it to all the progressive talkers I can think of.
