In response Gore in 08'!
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 01:04 PM by peabody71
Sorry I just can't get excited about Kerry. Actually never was.
Now, Gore on the other hand I have supported since before the Clinton Presidency.
He is the galvanizing force that we need in these severe times.
"A recovering politician", what else could we ask for.
Who's with me?!

2. He pretty much dashed any hopes of an '08 run on Larry King
the other night.

True he can change his mind, but in his words "been there done that."

4. I watched the King interview.
And I felt he put every single democratic contender to shame. I can't even talk about any other democrat for president with a straight face.

7. Did he have an opinion about Joe Biden?
He would be my second choice, but I must admit I don't know enough about him.
I like his straight talk style very much though.

17. NOT BIDEN!! PLEASE!!
It was Biden who grafted the Rave act onto the Amber Bill.
In the conference committee, to avoid any possiblity of debate or a separate vote.
In the dead of night.

Everyone knew the Rave Act was very unpopular, as they had received tens of thousands of letters
and faxes and phone calls every time it had been introduced in prior sessions. The media had
even reported some on the mailbags full of letters that had been arriving in opposition to the bill.

All this public input was a big annoyance to Senator Biden. He didn't want to hear from the people
on this issue. He is sure he knows what's good for us.

There was no possibility of defeating it once it was attached to the sacred-cow Amber Bill.

Lest you think that the "Rave act" does not matter to you because you do not go to raves,
it can be used against any kind of gathering that the authorities disapprove of.
It HAS been used to shut down political gatherings already.

9. I like Gore, but how on earth does he explain...
his LACK OF JUDGEMENT in selecting Lieberman as a running mate?

Also, I think Mr. Gore owes US a HUGE apology for NOT FIGHTING like a rabid Pit Bull over the election fraud. That is a very hard one to get over. We were all kicked in the guts and pretty much his response, or lack of response, made us have to merely suck it up. As hard as it might have been for him, he owed it to all of those who worked their asses off for him to do more than accept it. He owed it to our country to stand up in the face of treason and at the very least call it by what it was while he had the media's attention.

Those are events of the past, however both point to judgement and/or character.

What's changed? As much as I love his positions on most things, what has he done to convince you that he's WILLING to fight?

We desperately need someone that has the guts, the REAL courage, to stand up for democracy. Someone who cherishes democracy MORE than their own political career. He didn't pass that test when it counted. God, I wish that weren't the case.

14. This might just be me...
But the "fuck you" he gave lieberman in 2004 was all the apology I needed.

18. Al Gore has done more for democracy
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 02:24 PM by Uncle Joe
than any other living political leader and we are the result. He empowered us when he championed the internet and this is a capital statement on his character and judgment, his middle name should be changed to democracy. His reward was to be trashed and slandered by the MSM for his vision and dedication to the people.

He stood up and fought for the people in 2000 longer than any other disputed election in U.S. history. Al believed as do I, after the Supreme Court ruling there was no logical recourse except to accept the results and come back to fight another day.

Al did not quit on the people after 2000 either, he would go on to create the first two way television network "Current T.V." in history for the sake of democracy. That says something about his character and judgment as well. When Bush was determined to take the nation to an ill conceived war based on lies, Al called him on it in a passionate speech in which the MSM only said he was ranting or off his meds. It was also Al Gore who called Bush on his insane torture policies in another passionate speech while congress was mostly silent. When the gulf coast was drowning and Bush was too busy doing photo ops, Al was helping to rescue 270 stranded patients, doctors and victims of Katrina on his own dime, this says something about his courage and character. It is Al Gore (a head of the curve as usual) trying to save life as we know it from the catastrophic effects of climate change, as the energy and auto industries have fought the truth regarding this tooth and nail. It is Al Gore creating a new investment fund designed to change our economic model from our cannibalistic relationship to Earth to a sustainable one. This says something about his character, courage and judgment.

If Al Gore does not have the courage, character or judgement to fight for democracy and the people, then nobody does.

There is no other real choice (considering the situation--I love Clark and Edwards but they just don't have the pull). He is our only and best choice. Period.
AND he's a genius!!

16. of course i'd love to see it
and i'd do just about anything to support the candidacy.
however, the sentiment being expressed about him accomplishing more outside the realm of politics - his movie, shaping popular opinion about global warming, speeches, teaching, his involvment in buisness...I dunno, it's had me rethinking the whole thing. Maybe he really IS more effective outside the beltway, certainly less subject to Rovian tactics.

the interview with New York Magazine was pretty eye-opening, I sure do love that guy, but I'm conflicted about another run.
