Poll question: Better names for the Democratic Party
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 05:36 PM by undisclosedlocation
Partly due to parallelism (I just posted the same thing for the Republicans) and mostly because I'm getting tired of the pinheads pettily making it the Democrat Party (since people think of democratic as a good thing). This one will be considerably more sympathetic than the Republican one, but I'll put on at least one Bend Over and Take It kind of reply for those fed up with DLC type tactics (or non-tactics).

I once did a One-word poll: What are you for? which revealed that most folks here think that Love is the big one-word concept that we want to get behind. Not sure the Love Party would fly, but I'll put it on if anybody suggests doing so.

Edit: per suggestion (reworded slightly) Lay Down and Let It Wash Over Us Party (DLC and defeatists only) is replaced with Spineless Party.

Edit: as it's been pointed out that Saving America Party spells SAP, changing it to Saving the Nation Party. (National Salvation Party just sounds creepy.)

3. People's party, I wish
Unfortunately, Populist and Liberal are not synonymous, just much closer terms than Populist and Conservative.

5. You realize that "Save America Party" works out to be "SAP"
... Not a very winning connotation to that word.

There already was a Liberal Party but it disbanded years ago. I like The Democratic Party, as a name.

6. I'll put on Saving the Nation Party; since it already has votes I need
something functionally equivalent. Good catch.

7. Populist hasn't been smeared yet
Hard to have a class or ideological warfare attack on a word meaning all people(everything was expended on smearing "people's party and Liberation front names popular among communists).

However if we are going to be tongue in cheek:

Opus DLC

Fidderalists

People's Business Party

Know Something Party

Anti-car-ists

Christian,Muslim, Buddhist,Jewish, Atheist etc. Democrats

Freedom Fundamentalist

People's Capitalist

Moderate party

Centrist Party

Center Moderate, Right Left Centrist Party

Alternative Corporate Party

Neo-American party

Unlocked Step Party

Dependence Party(Just for confusion's sake)

My Party(impossible to attack My party)

Birthday Party

Lost and Found party

Second and Third Way party

Right Party(their of course being RW is the Wrong party)

10. The Radical Party
And I mean "Radical" in its strict historic sense--utterly devoted to our Constitution and the Bill of Rights--all of them, even the Second...economically in favor of small business, workers, and farmers--what was once called "petty bourgeouise"...anti-big business...and totally committed to religious freedom, and opposed to the American Taliban. Our heroes should be Paine and Jefferson. Oh well...I can dream...but I've sometimes fantasized about starting an actual Radical party--use the term proudly! When the Right accuses us of being "radical leftists", agree with alacrity...:-)...
