The Democratic Response: PROJECT W.I.S.D.O.M
Winning Involves Strategy, Deadlines, Objectives & Measures.

That's it in a nutshell to me: Winning Involves Strategy, Deadlines, Objectives & Measures. Why do we continue to let right-wing control the framing of our vision? Why do we not have something stronger to counter their 'Cut and Run' rhetoric? A DU'er asked this earlier.

Well I agree. We don't want to cut and run, or at least the overwhelming majority of americans don't, myself included. What we want is to bring our troops home safely as quickly as possible while not leaving Iraq in a state of civil war. But how do we do that? Winning involves strategy, deadlines, objectives and measures. That is what needs to be repeated over and over in response to 'Cut and Run'. When they say "you guys want to just cut and run", we need to respond with "No, we believe in wisdom. That winning involves strategy, deadlines, objectives and measures.

Why has this war gone so wrong? Why is Iraq in such a state of chaos when the strongest nation in the world has promised them freedom and a better life?

We have all the talent, skill, resources and technology that we needed in order to succeed, but so far it has been an utter failure. Why? Because for over 3 years there has been a complete lack of a sound strategy and plan to accomplish this challenging feat. There have been no deadlines of which to be held accountable, and no objectives which can be measured to gauge the rate of success.

War is just one big project, and this administration is one big project management team. They have so far failed miserably. How can they expect to succeed at such a challenging task when they don't follow the simple core values of project management? Any project manager within any industry needs to come up with a sound strategy and plan up front. That plan needs to incorporate deadlines and have them plotted on a critical path. That plan needs to have objectives. Objectives are what ultimately completes any project or any mission. But objectives aren't enough, as they have to be measurable. There need to be measures so that the objectives can be met while not running the risk of compromising the critical path.

A sound strategy with well thought out deadlines that contain the right objectives while analyzing the measures should always lead to a successful completion. But any project that does not have measurable objectives and does not have any deadlines to be met is not one that contained a sound strategy. That project is doomed to fail, as is the case with the current situation in Iraq.

How many managers leading a project could say to their superiors "I don't know how much it will cost, but I know it will put us in debt. I don't know how we're going to accomplish the tasks, but I know we'll need unlimited finances until we do. I don't know how long the project will take but you have to allow us to take as long as we want. I don't know how many assets we'll lose in the meantime, but that's the price you have to pay".

That does not sound like a project manager that is on the path to success. We need a real strategy, competent deadlines and measurable objectives.

Withdrawing troops is part of a much greater strategy. We don't want to pack up and leave, we want to win. Using W.I.S.D.O.M we should be able to greatly reduce our number of troops on the ground by having the Iraqi forces trained to control their country. It's been said that deadlines send the wrong message to the enemy: that they'll just wait until we leave and then continue the chaos. But success should not be narrowly measured in terms of the insurgency being quited. The deadlines would incorporate having the Iraqis confidently able to protect their citizens so that after we leave they can handle any insurgents themselves.

So we don't want to cut and run, but we don't want to continue to have our brave men and women of our military slaughtered due to a lack of a real plan either. We want to win and we want a stronger America. We do that through believing in wisdom: Winning Involves Strategy, Deadlines, Objectives & Measures.

This should be our meme.

3. Thanks For The Kind Words. I Do Truly Believe That We Need To
come up with readily useable consistent response to their meme. I did the best I could to come up with one that I think could work, and that the majority of dems could find unity with.

I know there are probably far better ones as well but this is my contribution to that cause. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
