Ha Ha! Scamdy Failed "Copyright complaint fizzles, like they all do"
Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 07:10 AM by DistressedAmerican
Was googling around to see who was using my stuff these days and I found this old post from the asshole freeps at Scamdy.com, perhaps the most vile group of wing-nut trash to ever pollute the internets. Apparently they tried to turn me into Santorum's Publisher for supposed "copyright infringement" a while ago. Funny thing is that I used to teach copyright seminars and am well aware of my rights to satarize Santorum's work. Apparently his publisher is as well.

Copyright complaint fizzles, like they all do

Possible Copyright Infringement of the book cover for "It Takes A Family" by Rick Santorum

I am writing to inform you that a member of the Democratic Underground web forum is possibly in violation of the copyright laws and is misusing your copyrighted material.

I surf the web often and found this possible infringement upon your copyrights posted at the Democratic Underground.com web site. It is a Democratic web forum which allows members to post comments about politics.

A Democratic Underground member who uses the screen name
"DistressedAmerican" posted a comment on Friday August 5, 2005 at 03:49 PM containing a doctored version of the cover art for Rick Santorum's "It Takes A Family". I discovered this post at Democratic Underground.com at about 2 pm on August 6, 2005. This link will take you to that site and the comment I am referring to:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4269678&mesg_id=4269678

I was disgusted to see that they had doctored the book cover of Senator Rick Santorum's book "It Takes A Family" (ISBN: 1932236295) to say "It Takes A Fascist-Homophobia And The Republican Agenda". This is a disgusting way to make a sick political statement.

The doctored cover art that the member used to include the image in his comment is located at this link:

It appears that seedsofdoubt.com specializes in doctoring copyrighted images to make political statements.

I am unsure if this is a violation of your copyrights but I thought that you should at least be aware of the vile way they are defacing your book 's cover.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

A Concerned Citizen

PS- Because the members of Democratic Underground often attempt to retaliate against their critics, please keep my e-mail information confidential. Thank you.

Freeps should really learn this lesson. They have also tried and failed to get me busted by O'Reilly's people and CNN over these.

and

Hell, I'd love to be sued by any of the above. I could use the pub.

Pissed off hypocritical wing-nuts, which is what exists in Santorum's inner circle.

You go DA! For that, I will buy you not one, but two (or more) beers/cocktails! However, this handsome offer is only valid in Austin, Texas. Fine print is such a bummer, isn't it?

8. You'd think they'd bother to read copyright law
and the very clear exceptions for satire.

I guess Freepers who were homeschooled using a Dominionist curriculum never got to sneak copies of Mad Magazine into the house.

Poor things.

This quote from one of their forums really says it all:

"Consider the amount of giving going on in he name of this molehill of a liberal mountain. Is it possible that the devistation is far less worse than reported by the MSM "through the filter"? "

Ungoddammfuckingbelievable.

18. Those fools never had any understanding of copyright law.
I filed a formal copyright infringement complaint with their host, their site was shut down for a period of time.

They NEVER understood the law, even though I provided them a link to the U.S. copyright office, in order that they might try to read and comprehend the law. Had they bothered to read the law, they'd have not posted such stupid arguments as "it isn't registered", "it has to have a copyright symbol" (and a lack of understanding of legitimate use for satire). The only people other than Scamdy to post the work in question was the copyright owner and his authorized agent.

http://www.scamdy.com/forum/html/viewtopic.php?t=344

In some ways, it is funny reading. "The above individual, from California, is of course a prominent FoA; a 51-year-old female, oversized, and far too old to engage in childish manners." Hahaha! I file a copyright infringement complaint under penalty of perjury, and they call me 'childish' while saying I'm 51 (wrong) and 'oversized' (5-2", 120 lbs.), as if it would matter.

I'm sure that many of us recall that they registered their origonal site under false identity & information and it was shut down for IICAN violation & they had to find a new host.

Comes down to the fact that they are a pile of steaming ignorant shit.

Pfft. What about when they doctor the truth and tell outright lies to make political statements? How about the vile, vicious way they smear their "enemies" so they can get what they want? I guess that doesn't count in their minds. :eyes:
