Our Little Triumph Over fox "news" Today.
We rarely go to dunkin' donuts, because in the Blue Pages, a handy little directory that ChicaAzul and I picked up at Barnes and Noble a few months ago, we saw that their corporate contributions are 100% RED. We are firm believers in voting with our pocket books. We will, however, accept gifts when given. One of those gifts was a $25 gift certificate given to ChicaAzul from a student on the last day of school this past Tuesday.

This morning we went to dunkin' donuts for breakfast since we had only 3 eggs in the fridge (someday, I WILL learn to shop with a LIST :spank: ).

On the TV, there was the usual bush-glorifying faux "news" morning show. When our order was completed, I saw that we'd been waited on by the manager. I asked to speak to her when she had a moment and was surprised when I saw her arrive at our table at virtually the same second we did.

I asked her if it was policy to have faux telling us what a glorious president we had in bush jr, reminded her that Maine is a BLUE state that had, in fact, voted for John Kerry by a bigger margin than by which it had voted for Al Gore and that we (my 6 year old son included) were very offended by the fox style of political indoctrination.

She said that she would try to get another station, but they were not permitted to have anything on except "news". ChicaAzul & I chuckled when she tried to change the station and it KEPT COMING BACK TO FAUX! She finally turned the tv off.

I know that this is a very small thing, but I don't believe that the First Amendment applies only to the righties. Maybe we're being constantly barraged with the notion that we're not allowed to speak out anymore, but they pick the wrong Irishman (me) & the wrong Puerto Rican (ChicaAzul) when fox, the rnc, cnn, rove and their ilk say that 49% (and likely more) of the nation have no right to speak. YEAH RIGHT!

I almost certainly know that fox was immediately turned back on before my chair cushion lost the impression of my ass, but every little triumph counts. If everyone who objects to fox opens their mouth, public stores and restaurants would quickly find something else to show.

PEACE!

7. Excellent!
THAT is why I always carry on my key-chain this little gem:

Your TV-B-Gone® universal remote control resembles other TV remote controls, but is different in two important ways. First, it only has a power button that allows you to switch a TV on or off. You control when you see, rather than what you see. Second, the device is so small that it easily fits in your pocket, so that you have it handy whenever you need it wherever you go: airports, bars, restaurants, laundromats, etc.

but of course there are things I don't know about, however I see no possible way for this thing to do what they claim. Have you actually used it?...and/or know -how- it works?
;-)
edit: read the website, it apparently sends out every IR code it knows about until the TV power code gets queued up.

Most modern remotes will do the same thing, but they're bigger & somewhat more inconvenient to use in that way. :D

16. My credit union had Faux "news" on all four TV's in their lobby
Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 06:24 PM by Mr_Spock
I spoke with them about it, then they simply turned every other TV off, leaving Faux on on the ones that were on (2 of the 4). I complained again and now the TV's are off permanently or one will be on MSNBC. I threatened to take my money elsewhere after 20 years there and I also told them I'd inform their board that they allow RW propaganda to be spewed to all their customers - offending many.

This is serious business - they should not allow the spewing of RW propaganda - this isn't 1984 and this isn't a Communist dictatorship (or fascist dictatorship) yet.

18. In a surgery waiting room I had a similar triumph
After all day of CNN headline news on I was tired, my family was exhausted, some jackass was changing challels and put it on FOX.

Well It was limited choice, sports, some news nonsense, maybe there was entertainment crap.

I understood they were tired of CNN headline news.

But I spoke up and said "you know, it's been all day news, and Fox is so nasty in its tone, towards a good many people, really can you put it on something besides Fox?"

They did. It was respectful, but I asserted my opinion, and it was heard, there was apparently no offence taken, either, and it wasn't a demand for censorship, it was just asking for some fairness and respect under stressful conditions.

I have been in the gym when all 4 TV's are on the fascist news channel. Same thing for bars, businesses, etc. I'm beginning to wonder, does the fnc pay businesses to keep the channel on faux? I'm serious about this. I wouldn't put it past Murdock or Roger-Dodger Ailes to pay small businesses to give the impression that all of America watches faux spews. Now I speak up and ask that the channel be changed, and the business 99% of the time does change the Chanel.
