MSNBC's Predators Online should be REQUIRED watching for
everyone, IMHO. I just got done watching it and had my 2 kids, 13 & 14, watching it too. I also told them about the head of Homeland Security who was recently busted doing the same thing. All parents should educate their children on this matter. I gave my kids their own computer, but they don't use it unless they are right here in the room with me.

The new episode, filmed in Fla, will be airing next Saturday night at 10:00 PM EST. Tell everyone you know!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12960173/

It's Fort myers Florida. It has already been shown here (I am in Fort Myers), these were some really sick bastards! Showed up with rope, liquor, some with dope and most with no condoms!

2. just a thought here, but how much of this is nothing more than scare
tactics on the part of the rw nutbars? I mean, think about how convenient it is that they use "searching for child pornographers" as an excuse for checking all of our mail, emails, phone calls, etc? I talk to friends in europe all the time, many of whom have children in what appears to be a target market, if one believes the msm, and hear nothing about that sort of thing. I wonder why that is?

3. If this is the series I am thinking of, it's not the Government.
It's NBC! And the Creeps who were caught on tape IMHO, Jail would be to good for them.

5. Nothing to do with the Government
it was NBC's Dateline series.

Scare tactics??? My sister's 10 year old daughter was molested last year. The guy who did it was found dead in the woods with 19 self inflicted stab wounds.... go figure

7. I know that there are some truly sick and perverted bastards out there
there is absolutely no doubt about that. but I wonder about the actual numbers, versus those bastards in DC trying to scare everyone, with the oh-so-convenient excuse for trashing our civil liberties that they are after child pornographers.

again, there doesn't seem to be this kind of widespread problem in europe, for example. wonder why that is?

nbc isn't a government mouthpiece these days? since when?

9. Oy vey!
You just don't get it do you? Have you seen the series? And Pedophilia in Germany if memory serves me correctly is a problem.

BTW when I see grown men attempting to have sex with a minor on video tape, yes I want the Government to do something about it.

12. I don't need a clue, thank you. I understand there is a serious problem
in this country, but I have some very grave concerns about what the government has to do with all of this, and I don't see you addressing that particular issue.

germany has a problem with pedophilia? source, please?

10. Europe has much more liberal views on sex...
hence the "Naked News" shows, uncensored Benny Hill and 13 year olds drinking in bars with their parents. Get informed, it will help you understand more. This isn't a conspiracy to take awy your computer. Check out the the team helping Dateline with this... Perverted-Justice ...

15. nothing on any form of msm is of any interest to me, as there is always
some sort of agenda behind it. and if you think there isn't, you are, to put it kindly, delusional. I am well aware that europeans have a much more enlightened attitude than the puritanical believers in this country. funny how that works.

I don't trust this government, nor any of its spokesgroups, for one second, no matter what they are talking about, or who is helping them. nearly six years of the BS spewed out by the rw has simply reinforced a lifelong mistrust of anything the government or its minions say or do (and that includes the media)

17. I don't trust anything this administration says or does either...
but to think I'm delusional is... well... delusional. Maybe I'm just a little more open minded in my approach to seeing things. I think anyone that close-minded borders on paranoia... that is, if they haven't already crossed that line.

23. An interesting discussion
In the Penal Colony

The enormity of the commitment on the part of the American economic, political, and civil establishment at all its levels (Federal, State, and local---and mothers for the penal colony) to the deprivation of the freedoms of some of its residents, as well as to instituting a sort of half-panopticonized, half-Big Brother way of life, becomes evident. Nor is there any denying it. When one factors in the number of people on probation and parole, which stood at 4,848,575 by the end of 2003---in other words, when one gets one's hands around the totality of the "adult correctional population," as the Bureau of Justice Statistics likes to describe this huge caste of Americans---the total number of U.S. residents screwed daily by the American penal colony must have reached the seven-million mark by now.

Let there be no mistake about it: This is a fascistic state and civil dynamic we've got running here.

Nor is there anything friendly about it.

Postscript (May 28): According to Jerome G. Miller ("American Gulag," 2000):

While most people assume jail overcrowding results from rising crime rates, increased violence, or general population growth, that is seldom the case. Here, in order of importance, are the major contributors to jail overcrowding:

1. The number of police officers
2. The number of judges
3. The number of courtrooms
4. The size of the district attorney’s staff
5. Policies of the state’s attorney’s office concerning which crimes deserve the most attention
6. The size of the staff of the entire court system
7. The number of beds available in the local jail
8. The willingness of victims to report crimes
9. Police department policies concerning arrest
10. The arrest rate within the police department
11. The actual amount of crime committed

How lovely, if you think about it. An ever-more deeply entrenched, self-sustaining law enforcement, prosecutorial, judicial, sentencing, and "correctional" bureaucracy acting so as to construct a vast array of crime and criminals, as a way of fulfilling its societal purpose and maintaining its power (etc.). And of all of the factors which go into this social complex as a whole, the one that deserves the smallest weight, in Miller's estimate, is the actual amount of crime committed!

11. I think the popularity of these shows demonstrates just how sick American
culture really is.

Oh sure, everyone is watching to "educate" themselves and their children - oh fucking wow, sure, I believe that. :eyes:

The secret glee of it all is more than a little bit interesting. Hell, Dateline should have a dedicated night for "Pervert Busts." Viewers could pour honey on themselves and writhe through waves of pleasure in bathtubs filled with whipped cream, lard, and healthy dollops of their own self-righteousness.

Required viewing? Hell. Anyone who watches more than ten minutes of these episodes is as twisted as the fuckwads on the show, IMHO.

16. Actually, I've been part of an investigation that took down TWO
online predators, so no, I don't see "boogeymen".. I see real live scumbags that prey on minors. It's a fact of life that everyone needs to face up to. They have always been here, the internet just gives them greater access to vulnerable kids.

18. I didn't need an investigation to take down the two who tried to mess with
me.

I turned one in to his wife, and the other I turned in to the cops.

Long before the days of TV shows blasting it everywhere.

I taught my boys the warning signals, and kept track of them at all times.

Those shows make me ill. Can't watch them at all. These shows are totally geared towards ratings.

19. well, at least we both had a common goal, to get rid of scum
I actually just started watching a little bit of TV a couple months ago, after going years without watching at all. I have taught my kids also, but I'm glad they were able to see this tonight just so they had someone's word besides "daddy's". You know how it is... every kid in the world thinks their parents are "just old, stupid, and don't know what they are talking about"... right? I know I felt the same way when I was a teeneager.

20. TV nowadays is evil...
most of the time. Don't get sucked back in... okay?

If watching this program helped your kids, then I'm glad.

The only reason I keep cable is because of CSPAN. I will admit to watching KO, and American Idol BUT ONLY the finale!

24. I watched parts of the first twos
but I really don't need this non-stop sitcom. It's more about NBC ratings than public service. Parents need to give their children quality time and warn them of the evil peopel in our midst.

22. i probably wouldnt say it so harshly, but i agree
i don't see it as "entertainment" and am in wonderment how we have lowered ourselves so to the point this is what we watch for entertainment.

i also think these shows feed this to people in a way that compounds the problem and creates more of it
